Missing your maiden name

Joysie, 6 November, 2010 at 21:24 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hi ladies,

I've been thinking while i've been my wedding planning, that i'm going to miss my maiden name! I know that sounds weird, and i'm really excited about having my H2B's name. Just wondering if anyone else is going to miss their, maiden name? As we've had that name all our lives, just a thought.

Would love to hear you views, or am I strange lady? ? x x

Your not strange at all. I felt exactly the same, but when it came to it I jsut felt proud to be taking his name. It does take some getting used to but it comes in time! xxx

I've been thinking this too, think its going to be really strange and hard getting use too, espically since at the moment my 8yr son doesn't want to change his surname ☹️ x

Not weird at all. The first thing I did when I got my divorce through was change back to my maiden name. I'm still going to use it 'professionally' becasue it's a whole load of hassle to explain to people why I've changed my name - again - at work, but I'll change my passport and bank stuff etc.

I'll miss my maiden name, I'm kinda fond of it, but I'm also excited about having H2B's surname too.

I think it'll be exciting sharing the same name... Makes it more"official". I didn't get round to changing it before so it's going to be a new experience. I was thinking the other day that our cats are registered at the vets with my surname so their names will change too! When we go for appointments the vet shouts "Smokie and Tigger Cornwall.."

I think I'll miss my maiden name, however my OH always refers to me by my surname rather than my first name (it's kind of like our "pet" names for each other) and I think that'll continue (and I'll encourage it) after we're married so in a way I won't be losing it altogether.

Im def going to miss mine as most people call me by my first and second name, strange I know but goes back to my clubbing days!! Thinking I was DJ 'Jo Day'!! lol

But Im equally excited about taking on OH's name and have told people I will have my old name at weekends down the pub!?

Also my name is short and easy to when signing my signature and have been practising my longer married name and its so hard!!

I'm so attached to my maiden name that I couldn't possibly get rid of it. OH and I are both double-barrelling so I can keep it forever.

Honestly, I can't wait to loose mine. I am sure it'll feel a little weird at first but my maiden name is so common, my married name is a little more unusual which I will like I think! I also cannot wait to have my other halfs's name.

If I take OHs name, I won't miss my maiden name. I'm not sentimental about it.

My son has my maiden name (and the new bubba will too) but if I change my name, I won't be changing their names.

Thank you so much ladies, for all your views. I was thinking about double barrelling my names, but I'm going to be so proud having my H2B's name. I'll love my new name, as much I love my old name x x

I am looking forward to not having to spell my whole name just the first one after i get married, I even spell my name without being asked because otherwise it is completely wrong! I see it as the start of a new chapter in my life - with a new title like a book Smiley smile

I shall miss mine terribly. Being a Mrs will be odd too. It sounds so old!

I like having a new name, but I can't remember it! I'm a primary school teacher so I get called Mrs Spink and I still keep thinking who when I hear it or see it written down!
