Misunderstanding/using 'words'/terms

Ohwhatatuesday, 20 March, 2014 at 21:47 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 45

My friend was having a conversation with her husband today about doing something so she said she'd need to call him and let him know, he replied, all smug at learning a new hip word, 'it's ok I can twerk can't I?'

It turns out he'd assumed twerking was 'texting while you work'. Now I can't stop laughing at images in my head of him and his colleagues twerking round the office.

Just wondered whether anyone else had any phrases/words that they thought meant something else?

    Ha Bless him!

I can't think of any from the top of my head but I am sure I have misunderstood plenty over the years.

Hahaha!! I can't think of any either (although I'm sure I've heard a few). That did make me laugh though!!

I might try to drop that in to a conversation today to see people's reaction... I'm just going to twerk the report & then it's ready ;-)

    That is bloody hilarious!

It makes sense though, if you think about it... "Fried chicken, fricken... male nanny, manny" texting while you work, twerk.

    ?

I've accidently used incontinent instead of incompetent in an email at work before, haha.

A colleague always uses 'it pulls at my hamstrings' when she means heartstrings. It's hilarious.

A friend of mine, trying to show off her vocabulary skills, once yelled at me to stop masterbating instead of masticating - I nearly died on the spot!!

I definitely pronounce work so it rhymes with twerk. Still can't get the image of him attempting a half twerk/half dad dance in the office!

My friend always says "High Insight" instead of "Hindsight".

My aunty used to say "pulling up daisies" instead of "pushing up daisies". I once caught her singing "Once in a Meadow" too instead of "Guantanamero".

My brother once asked what an "emulsha cup" was after singing along to "I'm all shook up" by Elvis. He was about 24 when he asked too and we still take the pee now.

i'd say it with an "or" sound, so twORking, whereas twerking, would be, well, twerking.

eta, I say work, like twerk, but i'd say it differently when its tworking. Like stork...

    i'll shut up.

ER I agree! That's how I'd say it too.

Reminds me of a colleague that sent an email singed off 'Kind retards' rather than 'Kind regards'

My OH always used to say 'Kill one bird with two stones.' I actually cheered the other day when he got it right for the first time, much to his bemusement ?

I say 'poodling along' even though OH tells me it's 'pootling'.

My OH forgot the word 'confusion' once, it's now a running joke that he says 'confusment' instead!

    Snorted at 'emulsha cup' ?

My H2B is always saying stuff wrong, Westminster became Westminister, he once forgot the word for a sponge so called it a washer, and the word for a spatula so called it a poker and loads of others I can't think of now!
