Can pregnant women* eat scallops?

Also, any of you having trouble getting back dietary requirements from your guests? I've had several back where I know they are veggies or don't eat seafood or things like that but they've said they don't have any dietary requirements. It's making me a bit fed up. I've got visions of so much food being wasted but then I resent having to chase up half of our guests just because they're too lazy to write out what they can't eat. We even mentioned the food on the RSVP slip so it's not as if they're not aware.

This weeks' nightmare: Guests.

*Obviously pregnant men can...

If you've asked, and people don't tell you their dietary requirements then that's hardly your fault if there's food they can't eat served up for them, particularly if you've provided them with a menu beforehand. If you know they are veggies, for example, then it might be worth a quick call to ask them if they've stopped being veggie as they didn't indicate it on their form.

In answer to your original question, a quick Google reports "Fish: while women should avoid certain types of large fish that contain high levels of mercury, there are many other types of fish and shellfish that will give them the benefits of omega-3s. Shrimp, flounder, scallops, catfish and crab are all examples of fish that are safe to eat during pregnancy. Just be sure that they are fully cooked. "

If the responses carry on at this rate it'll give me 40 people to 'phone. Buggers.

Thanks, aj. Just wondering if anyone on here has any specific knowledge of it though. They change the guidelines frequently. Besides, any fule know that scallops shouldn't be 'fully cooked'. Any of the pregnant women/those who have been able to tell me if you'd eat seared scallops, please?

Pregnant women can't eat soft cheese too fyi.

40 guests to chase? wow, you know a lot of vegetarians!

As a vegetarian I think it's rude of them not to advise dietary requirements, I always do, even with people who know me very well and know I am veggie.

I think pregnant women cannot eat shellfish, soft cheese, whippy ice cream, pate or liver, tuna (high in mercury) I checked a website though and it said shellfish is fine as long as it is well cooked and not just smoked.
