MOB Hat Search - Please Help

MrsA2012, 28 May, 2012 at 12:12 Posted on Planning 0 11

I'm on the search for a hat/fascinator for my mum. She's been quoted £350 for a bespoke hat to match her outfit, which I think is an obscene amount of money for something she'll never wear again.

I'm looking for something black and pale ivory. Can anyone recommend anywhere to look online and high st?

Thanks!!!

    Hi

I've just had my website updated and have lots of new hats and fascinators on there: https://www.katievaledesigns.com/

I still have others that aren't on the website and could also design something specifically for your mum, but this will give you an idea of the items I can do and in my price range.

Everything I do is hand made to order so I can work around any ideas you may have.

Feel free to give me a shout if you need any furhter information.

    K

I would highly recommend hiring a hat. There's a small franchise chain called Felicity Hat Hire where my mum is hiring one. It's only £25 (plus £25 deposit) and they had soooo many to choose from.

    Thanks for your replies!

I'll have a look at those websites.

I think she would be put off hiring as she wouldn't be able to try it on in advance. However, I think if it was on a headband that would be ok.

What about good old John Lewis? My mum bought her (pink) hat from there and it was on sale at the bargainous price of £30... would have cost almost as much to hire. They had plenty of cream/white hats, can't recall any that were black and pale ivory but then again this was a year ago and we were only looking for pink or purple.

If she would be happy with a fascinator then I fully recommend this place: http://www.poshnpretty.co.uk/pages/home.htm

My mum got hers made form there and it is fab. They sent out colour swatches and we asked for two thirds of the ribbon stuff and feathers to be pink, one third navy and they got it exactly how we wanted it. Much cheaper than other places and it came within a week.

    Hi,

I have just started my online fascinator business so your Mum could have a peep to see if I have anything she might like. I have some new stock coming in the next week or so too including some ivory. I have several styles she may like and the new ones may suit her too. If she wants to give me a ring that`s fine too.

www. weddingfascinator.co.uk and more pics on my facebook page. If she has something in mind I can see if i can get it for her too

Sorry,I don't want to bang on about hiring but I just wanted to add to my reply. I was very skepital about it all, but was really brought around (as you can tell!). I think I'd only ever buy a hat now if I wanted to keep it for sentimental reasons. A fascinator is a bit different as they don't usually run into hundred of £££s.

Anyway, just wanted to say that there was a changing room at the shop we went to so took outfits/shoes etc to try on with different hats. I also hired a hat for the races and even went back a second time, and they were fine with me doing that. They had mirrors in lots of different lights so can get a good feel. And you can pick up the hat 3 or 4 days before the event so didn't need to be rushing around either.

My mum wanted a navy hat for my wedding and they had about 15 to try on. The lady was really helpful in knowing what would suit her face/outfit; picked 'the' hat out first.

I would seriously recommend visiting a shop if you've got one local just to try on LOTS of different colours and styles even if she then chose to buy or commission instead of hire.

    Hi

My mam has just bought a gorgeous ivory with black trim hat from TK Maxx. It matches her dress and jacket perfectly. It was a bargain £35.00?

I too was going to suggest a hat hire shop, where you can try them on. Just google some in your area. If she does want high street, you can always buy a fairly plain hat then add a coloured ribbon/feathers/crystals etc to make it unique. Nothing worse than turning up in the same hat as another guest! Some high street suggestions:

Thanks for all our help! After the most painful hour of my life, we managed to get a hat from John Lewis.
