My mum got her outfit from the same shop where i have got my dress (infact she got two, and wore one to my nephews christening!) she is now looking for shoes to match and has seen some she likes in the shop where we are getting the BM's dresses i do worry though that if she doesnt get the shoes she likes it will mean a whole new outfit!!!! lol and with 10 months to go she has plenty of time to change her mind!

It kind of depends on what sort of thing your mum likes to wear and feels comfortable in and of course budget!!! Monsoon have some lovely dresses especially this time of year, BHS have had some great stuff in the past not sure what its all like now though?

How about you two arrange a girlie day with a bit of pampering and shopping somewhere you wouldnt normaly go?

    Hey Lorna,

Thanks for your reply, Me and my HTB are paying for the wedding so I have told my mum that she has got to buy her own outfit, the problem is she lives in black, she went to a wedding recently in a black trousersuit, thats fine she looked lovely but I dont want her wearing something like that to my wedding. Ive asked her to wear a nice dress or a skirt but its hard finding something she would like. She is 5ft2 and has huge boobs so its hard finding things that flatter her! Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi there, are you looking ideally for something quite formal? My mum has a very casual dress style so I'm going to be quite flexible about it - as long as its a dress/top and skirt she is comfortable in and doesn't clash (not much chance of that though) - then great. Probably best to just go out there and try on a few things, its hard deciding ahead without actually trying something on - If she is near by and you have the time maybe just spend a day together just to browse and try with no pressure and see how you go?

    Hey 22tango

Thanks for your reply. We have been looking online and we have been in debenhams and had a look but she is being REALLY fussy! We have a claret and blue theme so its hard trying to find something that doesnt clash, i said maybe a nice light blue would look lovely on her but we havent seen anything in the right shade, alot of websites we have seen they have all been floor length dresses (for MOB!) so i think were just gonna keep on keeping our eyes peeled! Thanks for your advice ?

I've every sympathy with your Mum! I'm only 4ft 11 and finding clothes in short length is a nightmare, particularly dresses. I can't remember the last time I bought a dress purely and simply because I can't find one that isn't either 6 yards trailing on the floor or so plunging at the neck that you can see my belly button! Even shops that sell so called "short length" or "petite" ranges are still too long so I tend to live in trousers also. I always said if I won the lottery, I would open a store dedicated to little people! On the odd occasion where I really have had to wear a dress, I've had to have one made by a dressmaker but there are very few places now that sell dress patterns so it's still a problem. I know lots of Bridal shops sell MOB outfits too and most are exceptionally good at alterations so I think that may well be your best option. Wish her luck!

Thank you Rainbow, totally agree with you, its an absolute nightmare, im 5ft7 and i find it hard finding trousers that dont look like they have had a row with my shoes, i see plenty long enough but then not in the right size so i know how you feel. This is why im on the hunt now, dont want to leave it too long! Will let you all know when we find something ?

    Hi Laineywhu!

I used to work for Debenhams as a Personal Shopper and think that this might be something that your Mum might find really useful. The service is completely free and there is absolutely no obligation to buy if you dont like anything! (I sound like i still work there dont i?? Ha!)

The ladies are really helpful and can advise your Mum on the sort of shapes, styles and colours which will suit her figure. They really are good. You have your own private suite with a dressing room, comfy chairs and tea and coffee on tap and the Personal Shopper goes out and picks outfits from around the store for you, taking all the stress away! Alot of people dont even realise that they offer this service but it really is great, especially for special occasions.

It is a really relaxed atmosphere and as i said, you dont have to buy if you dont like anything. Their Personal Shoppers dont work on commision so they arent pushy or overly salesy. They have them in over 80 stores across the country so am sure you will be able to find one near you.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Wedding Princess,

Thank you for your post, We have been in debenhams a few times but in my opinion the things i have seen seem really over priced for what they are, Ive never really been a big fan of debenhams so maybe im just biased im not sure, but I will keep it in mind! As long as my mum is comfortable and happy im not really fussed where her outfit comes from!

I would maybe suggest not looking at the 'typical' mother of the bride type departments such as Kaliko and Jacque Vert and go for Debenhams own brand things. I know that their 'Collection' department do some lovely things for a very reasonable price (about £40 - £80 for a dress).

    Just a suggestion
