MOB outfits- Where did your Mum find hers?

My Mum is dreading searching for an outfit. She doesn't have a great deal of self confidence anyway and she absolutely detests shopping.

She would never wear some of the outfits you see in the fashion shows/magazines for mothers of the bride, you know like the slim fitting dresses and bolero's, which are lovely but not for my lovely Mum. She is quite short (I think she might actually be shrinking bless her), a size 20/22, she doesn't like her arms but equally wouldn't show much leg either- honestly, basically she'd be happier to wear her dressing gown! lol! She is getting herself into a right stew about it because she wants to look good and is frightened she is in her words "going to let you (ie.me) and OH down" Which is ridiculous, I just want her to be comfortable but that means her feeling like she looks a million dollars and I want her to feel like that too, its a special day for us all and I want Mum to be happy and confident.

Any suggestions where we could look? Where did your Mum find her outfit?

My mum struggles to find dresses that fit perfect due to her shape so she has gone to a local dress maker (Leeds area http://no9bridalcouture.com/About.aspx) and is having hers made. They sat and went through the design and fabric together so she is getting exactly what she has in mind. The cost is actually pretty reasonable too! She's gone for a design based on this dress.

The best places I have found are:

    Jane Young in Newark

    Anne Wilkinson in Retford

but my Mum actually took a trip straight up the A1 to Norma and June's in Easington. They have a lot of choice and two of my friend's mum's got theirs there too. She paid £199 in the end, very reasonable.

Funny you should mention Norma & Junes that's where my mam got her outfit from. It's an Ian Stuart one and it's absolutely gorgeous it was expensive though I told her to get something cheaper but she wouldn't have it. My mil to be has bought a lovely dress from coast with a little jacket to match and got her shoes and bag in debenhams and hat from monsoon.

I think they both look gorgeous in their outfits!

My MIL got hers from Norma and June's. Dress, shrug, bag, shoes and hire of the hat for £435 which is cheaper than the dress was before the sale.

I took some photo's whilst I was there and showed them to my Mam and the one she's got her eye on is £500 and that's without hat or shoes.

We're going out one day and hittingall the shops as she really needs to get a move on

My mum found hers in LK Bennet at the weekend. Think we are going for a navy bag, navy shoes and a navy and pink fascinator as she doesn't want a hat,

Thanks for the more recent replies ladies, will add the suggestions to my list.

Jen, that outfit looks lovely on your Mum and will look reat with navy. My Mum wants a fascinator too instead of a hat- hats aren't good for some people are they?!

Soon to be MrsMcLean, we haven't been shopping yet as last weekend we had a suit appointment and this weekend we are traveling to Yorkshire to get measured for my dress and look at shoes etc so hopefully once thats out of the way we can focus on Mum. I have showed her a few things on the Jacques Vert website that she likes and also on the Windsmoor website too. Fingers crossed we'll find something, I'll update when we do Smiley smile

I've not been on Hitched for ages- I'm so rubbish at keeping up with forums! But I just wanted to update this thread as you were all so helpful!

My Mum is 99.9% sure she has chosen her outfit and will be going for a skirt and matching top combo from Jacques Vert:

    https://www.jacques-vert.co.uk/en/posy-devore-skirt-157166

It doesn't look much on the photo but it looks fab on my Mum, it really suits her shape and her colouring. She will be having a jacket too but not the one from Jacques Vert as it doesn't fit correctly so we'll be on the lookout for that and a nice hat or fascinator too and shoes, bag etc. I'm just relieved she's finally found somthing that looks stunning and that she feels happy in.

Thanks again for all the replies.

    Hi,

I found the staff in House of Fraser very good when I chose mine last april. Will probably look there again as my other daughter marries in Sept.

I have a new little business so maybe you may like a peep at my fascinators. There may be something you like. Ring me if you need further help
