Mojo? What Mojo?

MischiefMumma, 4 November, 2013 at 15:33 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi all,

I get married in just over 9 months, I feel as though I've lost all my wedding planning mojo. I got a draft of my wedding invitations through an email last night and I didnt feel excited at all, infact all I could do was criticise them and look at the bad points!! I made a few bits for the wedding, bought my dress but now I feel as though I dont want to do anymore. I'd be worried about how much there is to do but at the moment, Im not really bothereD! How bad is that?? How do I get my mojo back?? There is so much to do, BMs dresses, Invites, cake, rings(!!!), suits, decorations, all this other stuff and I just feel like my get up and go, got up and went!! HELP!!!!?

I had this exactly about 6 weeks ago. I knew how much there was to do but figured I wasn't in the right frame of mind. I just left it for a couple of weeks, ordered myself a filofax to get more organised and write some lists, and eventually this weekend it has all just clicked back into place! It will come back, I promise. Just leave it for a while.

We started booking things around 12 months before the wedding and so got all the fairly big stuff done in the first month (venue, registrar, photographer, venue dresser) then it felt like I couldn't do much else until closer to the wedding and those few months dragged and I felt really unweddingy. Got it back a little bit when we were able to book the honeymoon when next April's flights were available and then hit another lull. It was frustrating because I knew there were things I needed to do but didn't feel able to do them 9 months in advance. I became a pinterest addict so that at least I could plan things in my head even if I couldn't formally organise anything (be warned it's dangerously addictive and makes you want to spend money unnecessarily). Now at under 6 months it feels a bit more comfortable arranging things and OHs mojo has kicked in because it seems more real to him now too. Don't worry you will get your mojo back.

Don't worry it will come back! You've got a while yet so I'm not surprised you've lost the mojo, imagine planning for Christmas in March, it just wouldn't happen would it! We got engaged in April and are getting married in Feb so only a 10 months' long engagement, but I still experienced the same, probably around the 6 months mark. The only things you've listed that I would prioritise are BM dresses, and maybe just choose your decorations/colours etc - use Pinterest! The rest of the stuff can wait - we got our rings about a month ago (so 4/5 months before the wedding) and people commented how early we'd got them, so there's really no rush! I finally got my 'mojo' back when I hit the four months to go mark two weeks ago, but I'm expecting this to subside again soon as there's only so much planning you can do.

Relaxxxxx, enjoy being engaged and NOT having to do wedding stuff on the weekends, go out with your h2b, chill out at home etc etc!

Haha that's crazy, it still doesn't seem that real to me yet that I can comprehend writing a wedding report, I haven't even thought about doing proper flashes yet.

I went through a similar slump at about 12months I think it's only natural. Mine lasted forever though. Getting more done at the moment but getting a bit bored of making decisions!

I slumped about a month ago then had another flurry of activity after going to a wedding fair... and now I've slumped again. I'm now concentrating on Christmas and a bit of DIY on the house forgetting about wedding planning until the new year.

I think just take a little break from it, have a couple of wedding talk free weeks. Sometimes you really need the break, I took a break a while back when I was annoying OH every night with plans and ideas and getting on his nerves and when I wasn't getting feedback I was getting annoyed and stressed haha.

Not worth getting stressed over, a little break and then maybe buy some mags or watch some wedding programmes like four weddings or DTTB or something, usually gets me in the mood to plan again Smiley smile You're probably thinking too much about it and losing interested, sure you''ll get your mojo back soon!

I have done the same, but found it nice to take a step back and organise and buy the little things. sample wedding cake to try, thank you gifts for my wedding party and bridesmaid jewellery. All the big things are sorted so felt a little "meh" if that can describe it. It will come back though xx
