Mommy brides!

Arquard, 29 October, 2010 at 10:56 Posted on Planning 0 16

I've noticed a few of us talking about having kids and how we're incorporating them into the wedding, what it's like getting married when you're already a parent, coping with stepfamilies etc. I thought it might be nice to have a specific thread to chat parental/wedding stuff. I know there's already a Baby Talk forum but I rather liked the idea of somewhere to link in wedding planning and having kids. Hope nobody minds!

I'd really like some tips on how to make our wedding as much about us coming together as a family as it is about me and h2b. I have 2 sons from a previous relationship and we have a daughter together. H2b has taken on an amazing role as stepdad to the boys and they look at him very much as a father figure. On the wedding day, our daughter will be a diddy flowergirl, and the boys will be mini-ushers. They won't have any jobs as such (because they're a bit too little) but I'd really like to do "something" to make a fuss of them. Ideas??!

I have a 7 year old son from my first marriage. He's a fantastic lad and made even more unique due to his mild autism.

As me and OH are more than likely arriving at the town hall together on the wedding day, we are thinking of instead of walking in holding eachothers hand..... to walk with my son between us both Smiley smile

    Hiya

I have a daughter from a previous dickhead partner and me and oh have a 2 yr old together...

my daughter is 10 she will walk down the aisle (lawn!!) with me, and our son will be waiting with my oh (i am not to know anything about this or what they are wearing etc)

my children will decorate the cake

my daughter wants to say a poem or reading at the ceremony

I have also put their names on the invites as well as ours

we are having a boat not a wedding car as our venue is right on the river, we then have the baot to give guests trips up and down for 3 hours so we have said after the ceremony just the 4 of us will go for a little boat trip to spend time on our own before going back to the chaos!!

not really sure of anything else so will be keeping an eye on this thread too!!

My girls are twins. theyre almost 9 and are bridesmaids. I have been trying to think of other ways to incorporate them into the day. Obviously the main nice thing is that we will finally all have the same surname which I am really looking forward to.

    Will have a think...

Similar to amythest I've got 2 from my ex w*nker husband and my littlest is with fantastic fiance. He's done such a fantastic job with my kids, they love him so much.

My oldest, Laila is a flower girl, middle, Alf is an usher, and Arthur who will be 18 months by then will be in a teeny tiny suit.

I think they are going to design the invites too! Vistaprint let you upload your own design so thinking I'll let them loose with the crayons and then have that on the front of the invites.

I have two children from a previous relationship. My daughter is going to be a flower girl and my son is going to be best little man and will assist the best man. They are both going to sit in front of the other guests during the ceremony and our registrar has said that we can have four witnesses so my children have both sign the register.

During the wedding breakfast, they will sit either end of the top table, but facing into each other as they said they wouldn't want to face everyone. Before the wedding they are going to write how they feel about our marriage and having a new stepfather (with the help of my MOH) and our BM will read it out during our speech.

My son will be a bridesmaid! Well, I think the correct term these days is 'man of honour' - apparently at 13 he'll be too old to be a page boy as page boys are under 10.

He was originally hoping to be best man, but my OH wanted his sister. However, sister said she would do the ceremonial bit but would freak if she had to do a speech, so my son gets to do it instead - obviously my OH and I will help him write it - so he gets the best of everything!

What a fab thread! I'll come back and contribute properly when my 4 month old isn't being quite so wriggly! ?

I'm going to ask our eldest if he'll do a reading in church. He'll only be 6 by then but he's very confident and very articulate.

    Some brilliant ideas on here!

I have a 8yr son, who will be 10yr when we get married, we dont have any children together but my son calls my OH "dad", my son is going to be Pageboy (before he gets too old!) as he will have only just turned 10. As pageboy he is going to be carrying the rings up the altar (tied - tightly!! to a cushion) and give them to the BM.

I also love the idea of getting him to write down about what he thinks of us getting married and letting someone else read it out, ie. Bridemaid or Best man (have already asked if he would like to do a speech but he says no as hes quite shy) but think this is a really good idea! x

Our daughter is 18months old and is being Christened during our wedding ceremony - we'll get married and then she will be Christened afterwards. So, we've included her name on the invites as the day is partly hers as well, but TBH as she's quiet young, I can't think of any other way of involving her. I know that my H2B will include her in his speech, and she'll be sat between us (behaviour depending!) on the top table so she gets some limelinght as well.

She's also walking into the Church with my Mum before I walk down the aisle

Our sons will be 5 and 2 when we get married and tbh i've not really thought about what to do to include them. They will both be pageboys and will both sit on the top table next to us. I plan to also give them both presents when we do the speeches. x

Well me and H2B have been together for 13 years and have three children together. 8 year old girl, 4 year old boy and a 15 month old girl.

If you talk to my eldest she will tell you its our wedding day. She is so so excited.

I am having the two girls as flower girls and my son as a page boy. My eldest daughter will also be saying grace in Gaelic at the meal. ❤️
