mood lighting

caz1983, 6 January, 2010 at 15:11 Posted on Planning 0 2

Is anybody else having mood lighting at their wedding? We are planning to use it but have got such a variation in quotes from £290 - £795,all promising similiar things. We gave them the dimensions of our room and they all came back with different things, how many lights they should use etc! totally unsure what to do!!! Anybody got any ideas!

Mood lighting can totally transform a room. Have you seen photographs from the suppliers? I'm not a lot of help with price. Because I''ve only got enough for one wall, I throw mine in for nothing with the disco. It sounds like you've gone to a separate company for it. You may get it a lot cheaper if its through your entertainment. Hope that helps.

It greatly depends on who you hire from too.

Marquee companies are notorious for charging the highest prices, usually double what a DJ or entertainments company would charge.

Then you have different fittings such as Par56 and Par64 LED cans or LED bars, some companies might even use Discharge powered washes and use Iris or shutter control to dim to required levels.

For most small venues LED Par56 cans would suffice. A number between 10 to 24 should suit most average sized venues and these can or should be controlled so that the RGB (Red, Green and Blue) channels can be set to produce any colour you wish (within reason).

I would say average pricing for this on its own would be anywhere between £150 - £300 depending on locality and time requirements for setup and breakdown.

Check on the number of lights to be used - generally lights are usually placed in corners and at 2-3 m centres - any further apart and you start to lose the effect - additional lights can also be used to high light room features - chimney breasts, columns.

Lights can be set further apart - so less are needed - but the effect is different - not necessarily unpleasant.

Ask the number of lights they intend to use - the cheap quote may only be using 16 but then again....
