Moon cup

MrsM*LZ, 28 September, 2013 at 09:17 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 60

Has anyone got one? What are they like?

I'm thinking of getting one. My periods are all over the place since coming off the pill but using a period app on my phone predicted that I should have started last Wednesday but I haven't. I'm not worried as it could be down to the stresses of wp but think it'll now arrive whilst we are away. Thinking the moon cup might be good so I don't have to take so many sanitary products with me and will be better for swimming etc.

I've never used one as I just can't imagine how they'd not be messy, but those who have often swear by them. I'm not sure I'd be wanting to get to grips with one for the first time while I was on holiday though. Perhaps you could take a few pads and buy more while you were there?

I think your honeymoon is not the right time to be having your first crack with a Mooncup!

Can an you take hormone-based contraception? Get thee to a doctor for some norethisterone. It can stop your period arriving.

Erm, if you've come off the pill and your period is a week late, shouldn't you be thinking about POAS?

    Thanks ladies.

Test from yesterday is negative so assume it will arrive at some point!

Will get down the docs this week, see what they say. Maybe postpone the trial of the moon cup for another day!

If you are TTC you may want to avoid tampering with your cycle through hormones. It can knock out your cycle completely, and you may find it takes a few months for ovulation to settle down again.

Ive had one for about 6 months I reckon and have never used a tampon since ( and should add I wouldn't go back)

I had insertion down pat from the first try but I think I was just lucky as I think people need to try different things to get it right.

How the hell do you empty at work where the sinks are in the shared area of the toilets?

I'm not really sure, but I am not a fan of tampons and it looks massive!

I haven't heard of this before reading hitched. I've had a little look about online and I think I might invest in one. The only thing that frightens me is the "what if it gets stuck" question. Also a little dubious about the putting it in the right position bit. I'm going to bite the bullet and invest! *trots over to amazon*

I assumed you needed to rinse it. Otherwise it's old blood going back in there. Like reusing a tampon?

When I briefly looked in to them, someone said they carry a bottle of water and rinse it with that.

I have to admit when I saw your question I couldn't see where it was leading because it seemed obvious you'd tip it down the toilet! ?

It's a good point though which unexpected penny seems to have answered below. All just seems like a giant faff to be honest

Not only does it sound like a giant faff, but that you might need a giant faff. All that poking, and getting fingers up further....

    Excellent point! ?

In all serious though (if that's possible on here), what is the idea of it? Why wouldn't you just use tampons?

Cost, I've seen them between £10-£20 and they last a couple of years so a lot cheaper than tampons. Some people think it's healthier. A big point is that it's better for the environment as there's no waste.

I was going to mention no risk of TSS but couldn't remember if I actually read that or was just making it up!

Likewise. I understand why they can be good for some ladies but I am afraid they are not for me.

See for me spending £1.50 per month on tampons doesn't really bother me and from what I gather the risks of TSS are miniscule anyway, as long as you are changing them as often as they say.

    Definitely not for me

And K we definitely knew that about you already ?

No risk of TSS but risk of infection surely with reusing something so many times and just rinsing in water.

If I am really honest I think the whole idea is fecking grim. The environment can't quite frankly do one, I will stick to tampons.

    Ha.

I've just remembered something I did a few years ago. I removed a tampon and another string came out. Turned out I'd shoved one in there without taking the first one out. Shame!
