Moonwalkers - how are we doing?

Milk No Sugar, 24 April, 2009 at 09:43 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

There really isn't long left til the big night!

I've had horrendous problems with blisters, I could do with shares in Compeed right now. I've also had a week on antibiotics for an infection in my toe, and have tried every trick known to man for blisters. The only one that worked was two weeks off walking to let my feet heal.

But I've been really enjoying the walking, I met a training partner through Facebook and have done some of the longer walks with her. I've got halfway to my fundraising target but my main push is going to be done after payday. And I'm really looking forward to the night now.

How is everyone else getting on?

    Hi

I'm not doing it this year but did it a couple of years ago.

Have you tried 1000 mile socks?

I did it with these and had no blisters around my heals but i did end up with a huge one under my foot as my trainers were rubbing.

when i went for the fitting i am convinced they gave me a pair half a size to big, I'm usually a 4.5-5 and they gave me a 5.5 as said my feet would swell.

I did all my training in them and I walked a couple of 20 mile walks without a problem but had problems from 24.5 miles!!

Well done with your walking. My podiatrist recommended Gehwol Foot Cream Extra, which you slather on before walking. I never got blisters. Got black toe nails from walking in running trainers to start with though!

Well done you on signing up! I did the first full moon one in Edinburgh a few years back. Bets experience ever although I was crying by the end of it!!!

I suffered horribly during training with blisters. On the night I slavered my feet in Vaseline. Not one blister!!!!!!!! I would recommend that.

Doing a 20 mile long walk tomorrow!

So far so good, I really struggled with the longer walks until I realised I actually needed to eat for them - a handful of jelly babies or a cereal bar every 4 miles or so sorts me out.

I swear by 1000 mile socks - I've only had two blisters so far.

I got all my bumph through - I'm in the yellow group - where's everyone else???

My main problem is my feet get very hot very quickly so anything that makes my feet wetter isn't a good solution for me. I'm currently wearing two pairs of 1000 mile socks and blister plasters. My right foot little toe also sits underneath the toe next to it and that is where I was having most of my problems, but I tried a toe separator and that seems to be working, haven't worn it over a long distance yet.

I'm doing the 20 mile walk next weekend with a group of local people I met from Facebook, and an extra day to recover with it being Bank Holiday.

I'm in the pink group, I just didn;t want any pressure of having a time on me so just went for the slowest group LOL

    Good Luck!
