amihohu, 16 October, 2013 at 11:14 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 36

So we got one as a wedding gift from one of my aunts. It came with a recipe book, but I'm wondering if anyone has any fav recipes they would like to share ?

Thanks!

The easiest one for me is sausages or stewing steak, carrots, onions and gravy.

But I'm interested to see some different ones as I don't use it often.

    Take any curry/chilli/casserole recipe.

Put all ingredients into slow cooker at the same time.

    Turn on and leave.

You don't need special recipies; that's the point! you just do your usual stuff but bung it all in.

Claire; top tip. Don't shoot your slowcooker. It won't do it any good.

I thought you had to d!ck about cooking off stuff first? Why I've never bothered with them! (oh yes - that and my irrational fear of setting the house alight)

They say you should seal the meat but I'll be honest I never do, still tastes fine.

Brazillian and Caribbean shops are bound to have it!

There are some shops online who deliver as well, so not so bad.

Tesco and Sainsburys have them from time to time on "Food from the world" section or the beans section. Worth a look! Smiley smile

It always says to brown the meat first but if I had time for that I'd cook it all anyway. I just bung it all in and leave it. I lvoe doing chilli in it if we have guests as I can have it all done and can join in instead of cooking for ages. I made chilli last NYE in it we have two so one was a veggie bean chilli and the other had meat so everyone was happy. My Dad makes an amazing Jambalya in his I must pinch the recipe.

My mum does cubes of lamb, tatties, carrots etc. with just some water and a bit of stock I think - makes delish melt in the mouth meat.

I may see if Santa will bring me one...

We've had this discussion before - but it's safe isn't it - just like leaving the fridge plugged in? (it's the only thing we actually ever leave 'on' - even lamps get put off at the plug.)

I do legs of lamb in mine - with a red wine gravy. Just make sure you don't get too bigger leg, had to get my husband to saw off a bit so it would fit in!

I also do pulled pork, chicken thigh/leg currys, spag bol, chilli con carne, any kind of stew/casserole.

In the winter we usually have a slow cooker meal at the end of the week where I throw anything that is left over into it, this week is was pork chops, apples from the garden, carrots, onions, garlic, cider, stock and threw in a handful of rice an hour before serving. Was kind of a cross between a casserole and a risotto!

Never heard of the fat tip, but I never have any as only use extra lean meat.

Not at all Buzzee, that's the point. Come in at 7pm and eat, as opposed to come in at 7pm and cook ?

Another vote for the "bung everything in" camp, we use beef, lamb or pork. add gravy ingredients and leave to cook.

Brisket is fantastic cooked in it, we do it with a bbq style sauce and then pull it, fabby.

I often prepare the ingredients the night before so it takes seconds in the morning.

I have one and use it a bit during winter - love the recipe ideas on here! How do you do a pulled pork in the slow cooker?

Also never heard of the bread trick but am familiar with the orange fat thing! ?

NB I get the liquid smoke from Amazon Grocery

    Ingredients

    1/2 Cup Ketchup

    1/3 Cup Worcestershire sauce

    1/3 Cup Cider Vinegar

    1 Tablespoon Ground Mustard

1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder (or 2 garlic cloves)

    1/2 Teaspoon Paprika

    1/4 Cup Brown Sugar

    1/2 Teaspoon Liquid Smoke

    Dash Red Chili Pepper Flakes

    Pinch Salt and Pepper

    1 Medium Sweet Onion, Chopped

3 Pounds Pork Shoulder, Trimmed of Fat.

    Method

    1. Combine all ingredients except for onion and pork into crock pot. Whisk all ingredients until well blended.

    2. Place pork and onions into mixture, coating both sides of meat.

    3. Cook for 8 to 10 hours under "low" slow cooker setting.

    4. After meat is cooked, remove from slow cooker onto plate and break apart with fork. If meat has any bones, please discard at this time.

5.Place meat back into warm sauce to reheat.

Http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000R411OI/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is the one I use. I also just use exactly the ingredients as above and serve it in big floury rolls or with mash potato
