More dress issues...argh!!! **UPDATE**

ShropshireLass, 15 September, 2013 at 14:49 Posted on Planning 0 18

So, I've posted a couple of times before about my parents (specifically mothers) lack of understanding when it comes to ordering a wedding dress. (They have offered to buy as we won't have the ££'s until annual bonus time in Jan) They just don't get that these things need to be ordered months in advance & reckon the shops are just pushing for a sale. Anyways, I have now found my dream dress well within budget and am desperate to order it. The lady in the shop phoned the designer to find out if it was possible to order in the timescale (less than 7 months to go!!) and they said it absolutely needs to be ordered within the next 2 weeks otherwise it's not gonna happen :'( I now need to relay this info back to my parents and keep everything crossed that I can order it in time! I'll be heartbroken (ok, a little dramatic) if I can't get the dress it's taken so long to find! Wish me luck!!

Can you afford to put down the deposit and then ask for the balance when it's necessary? I'm not sure how these things work but I thought that the whole amount wasn't due on the day that you order it.

    Good luck!

If they're still in doubt then get them to look on Hitched and we'll tell them they need to get a move on ;-).

Its a possibility...££'s are tied up in shares though. Not sure how long it would take to cash them in.

I'm not sure how it works either tbh, didn't think to ask how much I'd need to secure the order! I was too flappy about finding the dress!! Smiley winking

What others have said - find out if you can pay a deposit up front to secure order, then work on the rents Smiley tongue

Yup, pay the deposit and THEN worry about getting them to pay for it. Maybe they need to be reassured that its not a sales tactic but a genuine thing when it comes to ordering dresses.

Yeah agree with everyone else see how much deposit is, some are 50% deposit and the rest when the dress comes in, and my dress shop had a payment plan of either 50/50 or as little as a£20 deposit and pay it up for the 3/6/9 months so they might be reasonable and have something like this.

The only ones that had to be bought outright were the sale ones that had to be taken on that day but worth a ask anyway Smiley smile

Thanks for all your replies! I've emailed the lady asking how much of a deposit is needed to order. Provided its not a ridiculous amount, I can hopefully pay this in the week & then will get to work on the 'rents!! Smiley smile

    Thanks! Smiley smile

I wasn't trying to lose weight (although I've never been adverse to dropping a few lbs here and there!) but I've been walking instead of driving the 2 mile round trip school run twice a day and walking the dog 4 miles a day too for the past week! I've lost 2 inches off my hips and 1 off my waist! I was so shocked when they re measured me!!

Wow, that's brilliant. I've got my first dress fitting in January so hoping to drop a dress size. You've given me some hope!

Thank you Smiley smile Its Benjamin Roberts 2392. I'm assuming it's quite an old dress as I can't find many pics online!
