More dressing up help, please.

Hi and sorry for asking advice when I so seldom have time to post these days.

My sister is getting married in the middle of September, which may still be summer, or may be on its way to Autumn. Am really stuck for a dress to wear. Would love to look sophisticated in a kind of 'yes, I'm her sister' way, but don't want to end up looking 'well, actually, the mother of the bride is over there!' This latter bit of course is where all my ideals of a classic, tailored look with room for the adornment of a hat seem to fall. But I don't think I'm that old, yet... perhaps my notion of classic is a bit too dated.

Am 38, 5'8" with long, very muscly legs (so need to hide them) topped off by what used to be referred to as 'good child-bearing hips' (I have a bottom-heavy hour glass figure: 12 on top, 14+ on the bottom). I have been trying to reduce the size of the hips but spend far too much time sitting on my bottom during the day and even with an hour plus of exercise every day have not succeeded in shedding more than 6 of the 16lbs that would take me back to pre-baby weight.

Would like to ask if you think this is frump or triumph? It could hide a multitude of sins. If too m-o-t-b - does anyone have any suggestions, please? I don't have any special role at the wedding other than to control my children.

Thank you for your opinions...

Lu

Huge no from me, Lu. It's a lovely dress but too statementy for SotB. Also, love your muscly legs - that would hit them at pretty much the widest part and make them look stumpy. Go for something knee-length and tailored, possibly a tad fish-taily to emphasise your waist.

I'm sort of with Sophie on this, I;m just wondering how it'd look in a more normal size (rather than the model size 8).

The dress is gorgeous, a lovely colour!! My mum got a fab fascinator from the bay of e the other day in silver and pewter with swarovski for £10, which would be fabulous. The lady also makes them in different colours so you could even get one in the same colour of the flowers on the dress.

Yes, I thought that too. One could easily look like a galleon under sail with all that fabric.

I attend a lot of weddings....100s in fact.

I don't notice the glamorous outfits as much as i notice how well suited they are to the wearer and how comfortable they look in their chosen outfit. I love that dress...... but would you feel comfortable wearing it....thats the important thing.

    Hope thats helpful.

Thank you so much everyone. I have a feeling that Sophie and Iris might be right about the stumpy legs thing. Not sure I would feel totally comfy, either.

Am quite glad fishtails seem to be in...they do wonders to remove focus from large derrieres!
