More FLower Questions, Whats a good flower budget

drifter, 30 March, 2010 at 14:40 Posted on Planning 0 8

Ok so I am on the flower part of wedding planning (in case you hadn't guessed)

I think my flower budget is pretty good but I actually have no idea of what would be reasonable for the sorts of flowers I want so any information would be great.

Essentially I would like english country garden/ vintage flowers and lots of scent

roses, penies, daisys, veronica, snowberries lizzianthus(sp?) rannuclus (Sp again) stocks freesias (I would love sweetpeas and penonies but I know this isn't realistic with a 1st Oct Wedding) happy to have mint lavender rosemary etc include for scent

Colour wise I want pinks and dusky pinks with hints of purple thrown in and in a range of shades to ensure there is some deep color around.

Handtied boquets for me and the bridesmaids

simple rose buttonholes for groom etc

simple low table decorations (think country fete/jamr type affair).

Then a large open heart made with greeny and flowers

and a large vase dispaly for reception venue

pew ends to be small bunches of wheat tied with rafia or ribbon

my first quote has come back a little over budget and still waiting on others

    Hey

searching online has given me the widest range of prices for boquets for a handtied I have seen £35 upwards to £90+ I know flowers make a different but considering online pricing is usually a starting from it gave me a bit of a panic.

I am really worried about picking a florist as I love flowers they are more important than my dress somedays, the only more important thing is OH!

ahh the joy of wedding planning!

Hi - I can give you a ball park figure but some of the flowers you mention are quite expensive in their own right so to speak e.g., peonies so you would need to up the price if you wanted to include these. If you wanted to include all of the flowers you mention, it would be quite a large hand-tied bouquet so I would guesstimate a figure of £65/70 for yours (more if you included David Austin roses and the peonies - although these two flowers are very, very similar so I would probably recommend one or the other) Bridesmaid's vary according to style but basically hand-tieds for adult bridesmaids are the same as for the Bride but if they are slightly smaller, they will be slightly cheaper! Buttonholes range from £3.50 to £7.50 depending on what flower you choose and the design. Table arrangements - if you supplied the vases, and they were arranged naturally in the vase, it would just be a case of the cost of the flowers plus a small percentage for the time taken to arrange. Hope that helps a bit!

Sorry, forgot about your open heart - these are quite expensive if you go for the large ones... is it for a welcome ring at the venue? Similar to this:-

These are usually around the £80 mark because they are large but they do make a statement at the entrance! The top table centrepiece can be around £60 - £100 depending on how large and the pew ends with the wheat and raffia should be fairly reasonable (thank heavens for that I can hear you say LOL!) Wheat is a good price at the moment although not as cheap as it once was! Raffia is also reasonably priced so I would say certainly no more than £10 for each pew end.

    Rainbowflorist

Your a complete star your price guides fit in with what I had in my head as I know some of the flowers I like are expensieve. Totally prepair for the heart to cost a bit but going to use it for the church and in tthe barn so I don't mind paying for that.

by the way meant to say on your other post sounds like plannig for your daughters day is going really well I hope your both enjoying it

Your welcome! Glad to help. Planning is going good so far... we haven't fallen out yet LOL!! From a Mum's point of view, it's a fine balance trying to not be too over-enthusiastic so it looks like i'm taking over and not too laid back so she thinks I'm not bothered! Don't want to be a Mumzilla of the Bride LOL! She's very much like me in terms of what we both like etc so hopefully, we should be OK!!

Ahhh it sounds like your the perfect planning mum.

We have an interwsting situation with our wedding

as motherof the groom is worried about interfering and Caroline (my step mum) is worried in case I think she is trying to replace my mum add to that me worring I am stepping on Carolines daughters toes by asking caroline to do wedding things and you end up with a group of very polite people saying well if your sure and if you don't mind.

I am trying to over come this by asking them to directly be involved in things or telling them how it's going and so far ti seems to be working well.

Keep enjoying your planning and thankyou again for the help

    Hi

I can't afford real flowers for my wedding as I want red roses. My theme is red and pale gold. So I am having silk flowers which look beautiful. i have found this lady who is unbelievably cheap who is doing three bridesmaid bouquets, one bridal, and 7 button holes for £35. My bouquet is £15, my bridesmaids I got for £5 each and my buttons holes are 75p each.

I wasn't sure about silk at first but I have received the bridesmaid bouquets already and they look very realistic. If I knew how to attach a pic I would so you could see them.

I can give you the lady's details if you like.
