Morning 1 in the Puppy House...

Storky, 16 July, 2010 at 05:28 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

I can't remember the last time I saw a time in the morning beginning with a 4.

So far, I have been woken at 4.38 (he's asleep until 5. 30 says my sister...), been bitten twice and had to clean up a huge, steaming turd, despite the fact I'd just let him in from 15 minutes outside in the garden.

Each time I try to lay down he barks. Not even a considerate whimper, but a proper bark.

I am not a morning person. I knew this. But I am even less so when I've had to clean up poo.

Today can only get better, right?

Puppies can be like that, most are from my experience. It should calm down in the next 7 nights, well, 6 now you have had one. It generally takes them about that long to get settled with the new surroundings.

Aw we got a puppy a few weeks ago and the first night he was really unsettled and vocal, and had several 'accidents' but has been absolutely fine since so maybe its just first night nerves in his new surroundings! Hope he settles for you soon x

He's my sister's. 10 weeks old today and they've had him for 3 weeks. They're away for a wedding so I'm puppy sitting for the long weekend.

Is he meant to be getting up that early? I can't remember when the dog we used to have got up.

Just goes to show I'm not ready for puppies or babies yet!

It depends what time he is last being let out to go to the toilet! they have very little bladder control at that age and he probably waking you up to let you know to let him out! Mine is 14 weeks not and can get through the night about 6.30 - 7 hours so we let him out right before we go to bed at about 11.30 and I get up with him at 6 and he is fine and will sleep through until then but if we leave him any longer he whines and then has a pee in his bed! But he was 10 weeks when we first got him and couldnt go for that long, probs max 5 hours!

They do sleep alot so if you let him out to go to toilet and settle him back into his bed he will proabaly just go back to sleep (although tbh at first while he was settling in I would get up at 5am , let him out and then go to sleep on the sofa so he could see where i was and then he would just drop back off again, he's a lot more settled now) What sort of puppy is it? x

That's really useful, thank you! He's a black labrador. Very cute, just noisy! He's obsessed with feet and socks, bit weird really.

I got up when he started to whine and he went outside for a wee. He was out there for 15 minutes and then when he decided to come in, he managed to poo within 2 minutes. Little meanie!

I'm so jealous of everybody getting puppies. I so want another one. Ours is a year now and house trained really quickly. Just need to be patient and persevere with it. He;s only 10weeks so still very little but Picking up a steaming turd is no fun no matter what!!!

    Happy puppy sitting x
