Moss bros worries...

mrswoody, 14 January, 2009 at 14:14 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hello, I want to order my ushers outfits to hire from Moss Bros but am worried that they are not doing well and could end up going bust like so many other retailers at the moment. Does anyone have advice on this...should I place my order and worry nearer the time if I need to? Should I take out wedding insurance? Should I wait until nearer the time before parting with any cash? Any help would be appreciated! thanks!

Ok, how far away is your wedding? do you have insurance?

can't comment on the moss bros issue in particular - have i got my head in the sand, or has there been something in the news about them going under?

Welcome to Hitched!!! I share your concerns. I haven't heard anything. I have to say though that I DO have wedding insurance as it was just over £100 and I think it is worth getting in the current climate. Have you looked at Debenhams mewswear too...for some reason I think they might be a more stable retailer (but guess you can never tell either way). I know that doesn't help much but I would be tempted to look around for insurance.

Have you actually heard that Moss Bros are in trouble? I'm sure you can understand that to post this on here might worry some people if they have already paid money to Moss Bros.

But with reference to your question I would suggest to get insurance in any case. For a relatively small amount, compared to the cost of the wedding, it is peace of mind - even more so in this climate.

    Welcome!

Get insurance - you'd be mad not to especially in the current climate!

No idea about Moss Bros by the way - but they're probably as safe a bet as any!

    Hi,

I have some experience with Moss Bros. And they are in a reasonably sound position at the moment. But there are quite a few other large nationwide retailers who will be sadly missed, so there are no sure things at the moment. Insurance is your best bet.

There are always other options. There are quite a few small retailers who offer excellent products and services. ?

    Thanks

    Marc

Just out of interest, what is a normal cost for a bespoke suit, two peice or is that too vague?

    Hi Ruth,

Sorry for the slow reply, I was distracted by work, kids, football and tv.

A made-to-measure suit starts from £449.95. The price is dependant on your choice of fabric. My favourite fabric for style, quality and performance is from Holland and Sherry and is a book called Snowy River, it is a classic English Worsted wool in super 100's to 140's but amazing depth of colour and softness.

A bespoke suit starts from £999.95 and again is dependant on the fabric chosen. A bespoke suit (they way we hav always made them) is hand-cut and hand-made. They have horsehair canvas's and hand-padded collars, hand-made button holes, real bone buttons etc. A very time consuming process, which increases the style and fit but also the weight.

I have loads of info on my site if your interested.

    Thanks

    Marc

Please don't let me panic you! I am probably being over cautious. However I just got wedding insurance through this site which covers you for lost deposits if any of your suppliers fail. It was £110 for good cover although you could go for the £60 option if that was better for your needs...

Don't worry, I am sure MB will be fine.
