Mother of the Bride outfits - where to look

soon-to-be-Mrs-King, 7 March, 2012 at 14:35 Posted on Planning 0 8

Hi Ladies

I wonder if you can advise on any shops that stock mother of the bride outfits. I am getting married on 30th June 2012 and my mum is keen to start having a nose around shops but I don't know where to look. She is a bit reluctant to look in some of the popular high street stores e.g Debenhams as mum is worried that a guest could purchase the same outfit as her.

She would like a dress with a little shrug, something light and summary but quite dressy as she is MOB.

Does anybody have any suggestions on any shops or websites?

Thanks in advance

We booked a personal shopper at HoF on Oxford street. The woman there was fab and put together an amazing outfit for my mum. X

What part of the country are you looking at and a HIB might know of a few.

Coast have some lovely stuff, and as its not as cheap as debenhams chances are your guests won't be wearing it??

MOB outfits have been the worst thing during my wedding planning. My mum is quite awkward, kept putting it off and has such low self esteem about her actually nice/curvy figure. Its the one thing that has stressed me!

Has anyone else found that the outfits either seem to be for stupidly young MOBs?!! Or really old ones? Bit harder to find things for MOB's in their 40s/early 50s who don't want to show all their thighs off!

Sorry probably should have said i'm from Croydon so anywhere in London/Surrey is good.

I think i might do the personal shopper in house of fraser and see what they come up with.

We are having the same problem with outfits being either too young or too old my mum is 53 but quite fashionable but we are really struggling to find her something. it doesn't help that she is also 4foot 11inches.

I know exactly what you mean, we had a hard battle with it, and got to the stage where I thought my Mam would have to make do and get your stero typical MOB outfit, but luckly she found this fab dress and shrug which knocked about 10 years off her compared the naff stuff!!!

Defo try HoF on Oxford Street. My mum is super picky, but the woman was great with her. You can book an appointment online.

The other place you can try is a dress shop called Mary's of Enfield. They do MoB outfits (are quite pricey tho). Don't be put off by the young people moddelling on their websit, they are a MoB shop!!

    Good luck x
