Mozzie bites just from sitting in the garden?

freb2reh, 24 July, 2012 at 22:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

How can this be? I have three V itchy mozzie bites on my arm and I have been no further than the back garden. Apart from the fact they itch like heck, I didn't think we had any mozzies in the Uk. What the eck is going on? It's only been sunny for about two days. Anyone else being bugged by these annoying little blighters?

Hmm Cheers Jojo? No, I have never been bitten by one in the Uk before - least I don't recall ever getting bitten. I live about 3/4 miles from the Solent, so fairly close to water for flying bugs I would imagine.

Will trott down the shops tomorrow for some of those mozzie coils then. I can cope, I just don't want the children getting nibbled upon if I can help it.

    Thanks Jojo.

There are lots of biting insects in the uk, were you never plagued by midges as achild on family holidays?

Something bit my toe the other day and it was driving me nuts in the night

The UK has loads of bitey creatures, even if they're not technically mosquitos. Midgies, horseflies etc... I have had some really awful bites in this country - one of them made my foot swell up so much I couldn't get my shoe on!

I currently have at least 4 insect bites from the garden (or possibly the train!) and have swelled up like a balloon animal.

It is getting out of hand me thinks, I woke up with two fresh ones. The thing is I like my bedroom window open at night, especially when it's as warm as this but seriously tempted to close it tonight after being regarded as a free buffet by some flying bugs! Even more annoying is I seem to be the only one in the family getting bitten.

Have you got some hydrocortisone cream AC? It may at least keep the itching at bay.

I am indeed slathered in hydrocortisone cream. Alternated with anti histamine cream. Can't take the tablets as even the non drowsy ones make my zombiefied.

My H gets a bit annoyed by my swollen limbs and constant itching, but there's not really any answers. I was told that Avon Skin so Soft range repels insects. Will be trying that.

Eat more garlic they don't like it - and i burn citronella sticks in my garden they don't like those either. Antihistamine tablets (if you are able to take them) help with the itching

This is the kind of thing I use:

Well this may sound a strange suggestion, and will of course depend on wether you are a lover or a hater. Last year on Holybobs a Doc recommended eating Marmite! Apparently there is a vitamin in it or suchlike which makes your blood taste horrid. So, although they may take a first sip they won't give you a proper bite IYKWIM!

I am eating Marmite on toast like nobodys business ?

See, I always thought that it wasn't about how yummy your blood tastes, but about your own body's histamine reaction to the bite.So tasting horrid wouldn't help much.

Where's our science contingent when you need them??
