Hi Halohoney,

Please can i pick your brains about Kuredu island? if you dont mind, can you help me understand how the resort works please.

I understand that certain room types cant use certain restuarants/bars etc, is it more than one hotel on the island? Can you recommend which of the beach rooms are the best to stay in and where abouts on the island is the best area to stay. Im getting a bit muddled with such diverse tales on tripadvisor.

what are the bars/entertainment like of an evening?

did you go to male? whats there to do there?

we are aiming for early february, is this a good time to go? weather wise etc.

many thanks for your help

    Hello there

Kuredu is one resort. It's divided into 2 bits. The Sangu "resort" (more expensive) and the rest of the island. We were in a Sangu Water Villa. Having walked all around the island, and seen the rest of it, and seen sample menus, we felt we definitely chose the right deal for us - AI, Sangu Water Villa. You get a bracelet of a particular colour to denote which end of the island you are on. In essence, any guest can eat in any restaurant or drink in any bar, but if you're from the cheap end of the island and want to eat in the Sangu end, you'll be charged. There is a pool, but just why you want to lie next to a chlorinated pond when the ocean is much nicer and won't make your eyes sting and make your hair stink of chlorine...

I would personally go for a beach villa on the same side as the Sangu Water Villas. Not many people walk down that bit, so you are largely undisturbed. You don't get that many fish in the lagoon behind the water villas. I'm not sure how you'd go about requesting one of these though, as you are just assigned "a jacuzzi beach villa".

We didn't really go to the bars much in the evening - we were so knackered from the heat and the day's activity that we used to pop to the bar, have a drink, and then go for a walk and then go to bed and read. I wrote a diary actually which was nice. I should get my photos printed and stick them in the book to complete it. We went to the crab racing one night - hermit crabs on sand, for real cash (US &dollarSmiley winking.

Didn't go to Male - far too much to do on the island! There are shops - pro dive shop, jewellers, ROGS (this is my family terminology for Rip-Off-Gift-Shop), and a mini shop for things like more souvenirs and shampoo, and a computer for internet access (yes, I did post on Hitched. I got a rollicking for that from H)

We were there this time one year ago. In fact, we flew out on 9th July. This is supposedly "rainy season". We had a minimal (30 mins) of rain each day. You lie on the beach and you can see a storm cloud on the horizon. It takes about an hour to get to you which is plenty of time to get yourself indoors and with a decent book. I think February is a lot drier. Even if it isn't, who cares as it doesn't really affect you!

If you are in the Sangu End, there is a CD library which you can borrow from. This was great as we only had an ipod that you couldn't connect to the stereo.

    Hope all of this helps!

    HH x
