music *again* help

cotteesgirl, 6 September, 2009 at 17:18 Posted on Planning 0 16

I know this is the millioneth if not the trillionth music post but i think ive nailed it, just want your advice on the processional....i think most of you know im not a classical type of girl so have struggled but have found a hiphop version (can you believe it!) of canon in d on itunes! not 100% sure if its cool or tacky though:-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rY20M7K9Nw (this isnt the exact song which is on itunes but its similar)

or i love moonlight senata by liberace, but have never heard of it mentioned on wedding music ideas so not sure if its appropriate (i.e is it connected to funerals or something?):-

Comments and opinions please!

I think the Liberace one is beautiful and compared to the hiphop one 'traditional', but I also like the funky one. If the hiphop one is more 'you and H2B' I say go for it - it'll be a talking point. I would imagine that most people are going to looking at you walking down the aisle in your fab dress to notice the music too much. Dare to be different ?

Thanks JR, that is what i keep thinking 'be different' ...next i will be learning how to breakdance up the ailse lol!

the moonlight senata track does make me all goosebumpy but i think i need something more lighthearted to lower the risk of crying!

I went to a wedding last year and the girl had arranged EVERYTHING by herself. The H2B must have been feeling a bit left out so she 'allowed' him to choose the music that would be played as they walked down the aisle together as a married couple.

The bride looked amazing, the church was beautiful. The service was so nice and the readings has all the women reaching for their hankies...you get the picture. It was like something out of a film.

    Then....

After signing the register they prepared to leave the church together.....and the music starts up. its the theme from SUPERMAN!!!! her face was a complete picture!!?

But you know what - EVERYONE was talking about it - it really lightened the atmoshere and was a good ice breaker for the guests sitting together.

So i think you should go with what suits you - if nothing else it will give people something to talk about!!!

P.S That couple are still happily married......?

That's true - you'll have more than enough emotions going on without the help of the music. You need to make it as easy for yourself as possible (obviously with the help of waterproof mascara). Have you picked your exit and the signing of the register music yet?

Love the remix. Hate the original (made the mistake of saying this to someone who had it as their wedding music - oops).

Moonlight Sonata has always been moving for me, but in a depressing and reflective way rather than thinking "wow that person is going to get married, she looks beautiful!"

I haven't really thought too much about music yet - apart from the first dance, ahem, heated discussions with H2B....

But i watched this again for the millionth time last night and cant help loving the of using it somehow??

Totally 100% tacky - i know - but like most people have said you have to please yourself!

H2B will not be in charge of any music - i would end up with the theme from X Factor or something (!) - plus he will be too busy with the Very Important Task of making sure his nails are clean. What is is with men and their lack of clean nails anyway?????

Louise that is beautiful, i can actually imagine a bride walking into that, do you know what the title means? (it maybe worth finding out just incase its something totally inappropriate).

I know what you mean with men and music, although i must admit im a wee bit jealous that you have a oh who likes or even knows about the Xfactor haha ... so far my oh has suggested blowing bubbles (west ham fan!) yeah right, and when i told him the first dance song he hated it and then a week later went oh listen ive found the perfect song to dance too and it was the one i had suggested already lol so funny.

What first song are you dancing too?

Oh the music will mean so much to me at our wedding! But there are some really big choices to make.

Walking down the aisle, I always thought we'd have 'Colorblind' by Counting Crows (as we incessantly listened to it when we first got together, and it has all that 'I am ready' stuff) but recently I've really fallen in love with Regina Spektor's cover of 'Real Love' (originally by John Lennon) Regina Spektor is my all time favourite singer!

I also love 'Make You Feel My Love' (always have as Dylan song, Adele does it very nicely) - for signing the register?

We've always wanted the Wannadies for the recessional (You and Me Song)

Kate Rusby during wedding breakfast, to matchy folksy theme

First dance is likely to be 'Don't Falter' by Mint Royale - love the stuff about 'he is officially mine' and it mentions our married surname which makes me smile.

Last song will be 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' as its an anthem for us and our friends (get a guitar and some wine and we always sing it). I like the idea that love can be tenuous and you shouldn't take it for granted!

    (sorry, thread invasion over!)

Wow fancyfree you are so my type of music chick, i love all the tunes you have mentioned and funny enough i saw colorblind on a wedding top ten alternative list the other day! oooh and the wanadies, that takes me back i love that tune (sadly it was bought for me by my first husband though drat so unusable!)....you are terribly organised hun, i have found the music the worse thing ever as you can probably tell considering i have only 2 weeks left and still fafthing around about it lol

As far as i know its just called "lakitas theme" lakita is the girl in slumdog millionaire. i might check if the name has a significant meaning though!

H2B and i have 2 wee boys (ages 4 & 2) so sat nights mainly go as follows: take away, bottle of wine, x factor!!! i wouldnt have it any other way!!! he pretends to hate it but i know he loves it really - especially since we attended a wedding on the day of the final last year and he was texting all night to find out who won ? He was trying to say it was to win a bet. Hmmmm

I think i have just about narrowed the first dance tune down to the final selection: elton john - something about the way you look tonight OR take that - rule the world OR the beatles - all you need is love. but i will probably change my mind another million times! ?

Fancyfree i wouldnt do that to you! my choices have ranged from the bizzaire to the ridiculous some elbow songs, i love placebo so have considered everyone of their collection, white wedding billy idol (which is now on some trashy car advert, song by a girl.. pah stealing my ideas, it does sound cool though)...the list is just endless!

Oooh CG I heard the alternative version of Canon in D and it made me smile - think you should go for that!! Don't go with the norm if that's not what you want - make it individual!

We're having a pianist and cello doing hoppipola by Sigur Ros for when I come up the aisle... Was either going to be this or Elbow's One Day Like This

Way back down the aisle together will be "Be My Baby" by the Ronettes

First dance is Better by Tom Baxter.

I don't fancy doing the usual music wise as we're having a civil ceremony and I'm not into classical. CG - can't believe you're getting married soon!! Are you excited?? Not long now eh?!!! x
