Music during dinner??

jojo2, 3 April, 2011 at 16:33 Posted on Planning 0 13

I have sorted a pianist for our wedding during guest arrival, ceremony, signing register and leaving the ceremony room followed by a steel band for Drinks reception but just realised that the wedding breakfast will be a bit quiet. I don't want the pianist hanging around until we eat at 100 quid an hour so he will leave after the ceremony Are any of you having a cd or ipod music playing during the meal, I was thinking a classical cd would be nice and discreet. Any suggestions appreciated ?

We had michael buble playing during our wedding breakfast just in the backgorund it was soft enough music with the occasional track that had peoples feet tapping. Everyone loved it.

Background music gives a nice ambience to the room while you dine. If using CD or i-pod the choice is your oyster (errr..or something like that).

I've got a wedding coming up this month whereby both bride and groom love classical music. One is a fan of mozart and the other Bach....so we have decided on a mixture of both. The wonderful thing about classical is you don't have to play the whole piece of work, you can choose a movement.

Are you personal friends or did you have to pay him?! lol!

We're having a selection of instrumentals - there's nothing worse than people trying to sing when they're eating. We've got about 3 hours on a playlist on a iPod, we can just plug it in at the venue and leave it to run.

Classical or accoustic normally works best. Songs with strong vocals just don't work too well (IMO!), if its a popular song, some people will want it louder so they can hear it.

Sticking to well known classics is a good idea, as most people will know them, but there are also some instrumental arrangements of other songs.

If you are using a battery powered player (iPod/Phone etc) then put it in Airplane mode (so you don't get people calling mid-meal!) and also ensure its charged! (easy to forget!)

I live in the midlands and found a band from Coventry who I considered reasonable as there will be 5 of them. They have played internationally and at festivals all over the country so are pretty good. I got quotes from London based bands with fancy websites who were extortionate plus travel expenses!! If you want their details let me know.

Our DJ is setting up before our meal as there will be no time afterwards - so he is also going to provide background music for during the meal. We're thinking of asking for Forties music as we have a slight vintage theme going on.
