Music?...honest opinions please

Cilla, 28 August, 2011 at 22:15 Posted on Planning 0 14

So I'm wondering what music to have for our civil ceremony and I'm already settled on Cannon in D for the walking in bit but I've just been watching Da Vinci Code and I'd forgotten just how much I love the music at the end. I'm wondering about having it during the signing of the register, but is it too dramatic? Or wierd? It kind of makes me feel a sense of build up and excitement but I'm not sure everyone else would think this way

I'd also like Bruno Mars Marry You for a bit of fun and light heartedness.

What do you think? One, other, neither or both?

As the title says, honest opinions welcome.

Thanks

Miss T

Erm well I have to start off by saying that I hate Bruno Mars but I know I may be in the minority with that.

With regards to the Da Vinci Code music - it is lovely but I'm wondering if it is a bit dramatic to be honest?

I think the thing to be aware of is that the register signing may be over at any time and won't necessarily coincide with the dramatic pacing of the music. So you may be halfway through the track, even halfway through the phrase - which would ruin it somewhat! If you get a live musician to play it, of course, they can bring it to an appropriate close.

I really wanted that Bruno Mars song but OH isn't keen. Think he might let me have in in the list of songs we have before the ceremony while the guests are waiting!

Ooh I forgot about music before the ceremony! Maybe I can jam the Da Vinci code in there instead, then it could be allowed to finish before I come in. I'd love to have a live artist but OH vetoed that on account of keeping costs down

Thanks everyone for your feedback, I'm taking on board what you're saying. Perhaps if I was getting married in a cathedral rather than a rather large lounge (?) it wouldn't seem so dramatic. I really like it tho...sigh.

I too think the first song might be a bit much, but that's for me.

I think the music should match your and your OH's personalities and wedding.

i love the idea of Bruno Mars, (although OH has said flat out no) and was thinking of Amazing. I looked at the Marry Me lyrics and worried about the wedding being something dumb to do. Am I overthinking it?!

To be honest we hardly noticed the music at all - you will be so carried away with the ceremony that you won't be thinking about when at a certain point in the music you are doing what so I would go with whatever you like the best!

I personally think the first song is far to dramatic and almost funeral like (sorry!). We are having the bruno mars song Marry Me as our last dance of the evening!

Honestly, i dont think the 1st song suits signing of the register, as like you say it has a build up kinda feel to it. The waiting before you come in, i think it would be ideal.

I really dont like Bruno Mars but thats personal choice. I dont think the lyrics are really suitable tbh, BUT, i always say if its what you want, your opinion is the only one that matters

I said the same of "MArry You" The only really sweet thing in it is "hey baby, i think i wanna marry you" So we dismissed it, however Amazing is one of our songs, so we will have that.

All of our music is songs that mean something to us, regardless of whoever else likes it or hates it. We have a list of about 30 songs that have a special meaning or bring back special memories.

Thanks everyone for your opinions, its all food for thought. I think I'll sit on it for a while and see how I feel in a few weeks. I'm not getting much help from OH at all...he just wants to know what time to turn up and thats about it ?
