Musicians for your wedding

Bambi, 31 January, 2011 at 10:06 Posted on Planning 0 1

A quick question for all you brides out there. At my wedding I had a string quartet. Would you have any different combination of musicians to play? For example a horn quartet, a brass quintet. Asking as I played in group yesterday at a wedding Fayre as a horn quartet & no-one seemed to be interested... Are we just too quirky?

    Hey Bambi,

As a brass player myself (I play trombone in Rubber Soul as well as running it) I would say that a horn quartet is not quite the norm for wedding. We've played hundreds of weddings in our thirteen years doing this and we've seen all manner of additional entertainment from solo vocalists, harpists and so on up dancing troupes. String trios and quartets together with woodwind trios and quartets are definitely popular. I've never seen a horn quartet. That said, I've got some friends who have a trumpet quartet and they travel up and down the country doing wedding CEREMONIES and other things like graduation ceremonies.

Is there a way you could target the ceremonies only with your quartet as it may be a bit more popular? The ladies on this forum would definitely give you a steer as to whether that would be something they'd be interested in though.

The other thing I'd say is that sometimes wedding fayres are a little hit and miss. Perhaps do a couple more and if no-one is interested at ANY of them then have a rethink. Its all about the statistics and one wedding fayre is not necessarily a good indicator.

Hope that helps and good luck with it!

    Tony
