My acne has returned-any suggestions?

wookie, 6 September, 2008 at 18:10 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

I am so fed up. I came off the pill in May and my skin has become progressively worse since then. I had acne when I was younger and was originally put on the pill to combat it which worked to some degree. However, now I'm off it, I'm one big spot and they've started to spread to my neck. Attractive, I'm sure you'll agree. I'm also a big greasy mess and I'm becoming increasingly more miserable as a result. I feel, and look, rank.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could use product wise to sort my ugly mug out? I'm going to have to resort to a paperbag otherwise.....☹️

    Sorry but no idea.

I assume going back on the pill is not an option?

Maybe you could ask your Dr for a referral to a dermatologist?

I can't remember the name of them, but I went onto to anti biotics for aaaaages when I had acne, and when I came off it had pretty much cleared up

Thanks timotei. No, I came off the pill to TTC. Hmmm, I hadn't thought about going to the doctor about it. I think he thinks I'm a bit of a hypochondriac (I'm not, just seem to have things going wrong all the time!) but I might try and see the other doctor at our practice if I can't sort it out myself first.

I tried some antibiotics when I was younger but they didn't seem to work. I reckon it might be worth giving it another try now. Can you take antibiotics if you're pregnant?

I did wonder if you were TTC but didn't like to mention it.

Trouble is a lot of the strong treatments aren't suitable if you are TTc or pregnant. In your case I would definitely see the Dr, like Lois says, maybe antibiotics can help. Just make sure you mention you are TTC.

I would definitely mention you are TTC if you ask for antibiotics as some aren't suitable.

I think you should see Dr as I hate to say it but pregnancy might make it worse........ of course, could improve it too!

sorry for some dupliation then, I didn't think my other post had posted!

Hi wookie, I normally just lurk on hitched but now can't resist posting when someone asks about acne treatments.

I spent years absolutely miserable over my skin and had tried all the treatments including the really horrible stuff from the doctors and nothing touched the spots until recently when someone told me about a miracle product called Ketsugo. I buy it from amazon and its the isotrol gel that is the wonder stuff. I really couldn't tell you how fab it is and for me there has been no side effects at all. No dry skin etc., though I would maybe ask doc before using anything once preg.

As another plus, my skin was beautiful while I was pregnant and while I was breast feeding but returned to its normal state soon after I stopped. Until I found this product that is.

Good luck with TTC and I hope you get your skin sorted soon.

Benzoyl peroxide gel has worked pretty well for me - you can buy it over the counter although I second the suggestion to see the docs as you're TTC. It's miserable, isn't it, hope you manage to sort it.
