My afro transformed: Hair trial *flash*

CBeckford, 13 December, 2014 at 15:14 Posted on Planning 1 28

Hi ladies,

As some of you may know I was getting into a bit of a stress looking for someone to do my hair for the big day. After months of trawling the internet and asking around I found a lovely lady who was willing (and able) to tame my 'fro.

Earlier today I had my (very early) trial with her and here are the results. This was actually the first time I had seen my hair straight in almost two years!

My hair before the trial:

And here I am after some hair magic:

I'm so so pleased with it and not to mention relieved that I won't end up looking a hot mess with out of control hair on the big day! Yay!

Looks fab! How long have you been natural if you don't mind me asking? I have been natural for about 4 years and everytime I go to a salon always someone asks if I want to relax my hair again. No!

Thanks so much ladies! ? I was honestly speechless when she was finished! Couldn't believe it was really my hair!

Urbanbridesmaid - I big chopped in Jan 2013, so almost two years now. omg, that happens to me everytime I used to get my hair braided! The relaxer brigade ? I've now found a not-so-judgy lady who's mobile and specialises in natural hair to do my trims and braiding, everything else I do myself.

Thanks for such lovely comments everyone! I'm feeling the love ?

Schwelley - Show it off I did! Had a Christmas party last night ?

Catshoes - if you google AVOS Hair, you'll find her contacts. Her Instagram is also AVOS Hair and you can check out her work. I'm not sure where you are, but she's based in London. She had to blowdry my hair first to stretch my curls, then used ceramic straightners to smooth it. Then she tucked and pinned it into the style. It was done in about 90 mins!

It's stunning, such a transformation! I have to say I like your hair in the first pic, but that's just my taste - I like the tight little curls!

Just make sure you feel like you still look like yourself Smiley smile

    Thanks so much everyone ?

I originally wanted to keep it curly for the big day, but styling it to come out a certain way would have required me to start preping it the day before. Plus try as I might, sometimes my hair just will not do as it's told! ? I had visions of my veil falling off and hair pins struggling to contain my hair!

What I'm most pleased about though is the fact I won't need any extensions, which was a nice surprise. In January 2013 I decided to embrace my natural curls and chopped all but about 2 inches off to "start again". Its been a struggle at times (the day after I cut it all, I had a cry because I thought I looked like a boy!)but I'm really happy I stuck with it. Last night I washed and conditioned so the curls are popping once again! No more heat for me until the big day!

Awww... glad i've found a 'hair mate' on here. Your post sounds just like my hair story.

When I cut mine off it was probably about 4 inches. I hated it and cried for ages. I've been natural for about 1 year now and honestly sometimes I just want to give up, but then again it seems to be growing much faster and for once it's healthy and not breaking off.

It's been a real struggle but i'm slowly growing to love it and just live with the fact that it has a life of it's own.

Your hairdresser did a great job and it looks fab. She's a talented lady!

    Yaaay! Hey Naturalisa-sista! ?

I completely get you, I didn't realise quite how much I relied on/hid behind my hair. Cutting it was so so scary but it has done great things for my confidence and the way I see myself in general, not to mention how much healthier it is. Keep at it girly, you won't regret it. It took me a while to adjust but now there is no way I could go back to relaxers, I love my kinks too much! ?

    Haha!

I agree, the confidence has definitely improved. And it's been nice to hear people they like my hair in it's natural state. I honestly wasn't expecting people to be so positive about it.

I'm not going back to relaxing it either. THe cost and hassle of that is much worse than dealing with a mane of unruly curs. When i get upset now I just tie it back and try again another day.

Just can't wait for it to be long!! Grow hair, grow!! ?

Eek! It's so beautiful! Before and after! You would never think there was the length to transform it into such a twisty-knotty masterpiece! I wonder how many of our hubsters will be helping us take pins out of our hair on the wedding night!

Come to this a bit late - but fabulous transformation. You have gorgeous hair normally though. The change is going to create massive impact at your wedding!
