My car's been written off by a drunk driver.

DebbieD, 26 July, 2008 at 12:39 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

I was coming home at 10pm last night and got hit head-on by a white transit van swerving across the road. I got taken to hospital on a spinal board and kept being told how lucky I was to walk away with minor injuries.

The driver of the transit was over the limit and was taken from the hospital straight to the police station.

I've just been to get some stuff out of my car and I was quite shocked to see how badly damaged it is.

No point to this - just wanted to rant a bit!

What a horrible experience for you. Glad you got off so lightly, it could have been so much worse. And I hope the transit driver has the book thrown at him. There is absolutely no excuse for getting behind the wheel with a drink in you.

Oh my word, how horrible for you? Thank god you are okay, it amazes me how many people continue to drink drive.

You were very lucky. I had a bad crash years ago (underage uninsured driver, driving his dad's car) came speeding up a slip road, did'nt brake in time and rammed me into the middle of the roundabout - he ran off but left his passenger there!

I was kept in hospital with a neck fracture.

I don't really drink now anyway, but have always never even had one drink if I am driving.

Thanks. I'm feeling really sorry for myself, but now I've seen the car, I'm feeling very lucky too!!

Blimey Debbie, how scary. How are you feeling now?

    ?

The important thing is you are ok, but I hope the drink driver learns from that humungous mistake. Some people don't deserve a licence.

Thanks - feeling pretty achy now.

Managed to find a new car and I'll be back on the road on Wednesday. They don't make the Rav4 in a 3 door any more so they are quite difficult to find, but I've found one which is only 6 months older than the one I had. It's built like a little tank and I have been told by a few people that I would not be as well today if I hadn't been in one of those so I want the same again!

I've just had a call from the police to say he has been charged with drink driving and they are looking at dangerous driving too. Luckily he's insured and there was a witness who he just missed who said he was doing at least 50 in a 30 zone. That might explain the pain in my neck and shoulders!!

OMG! I just looked at your photos, looks like you've been very lucky.

Take care of yourself, talk about it as much as you can/need to and drive as soon as you feel up to it!

    Take care

Holy crap Debbie, thank God you're OK. Make sure you take care of yourself for at least the next few weeks, these things can really take their toll when you least expect it. Your poor car, it looks horrendous.

Again, I'm so glad you're OK.
