if i was rachels age, i wouldnt eat other food either if people constantly gave me chocolate!

I used to work with a girl whose child "wouldnt eat" anything with lumps.

she could however eat crisps and trifle! its a joke

What a terrible situation, i can see they can have a real phobia but at what point at weaning did they decide that they'd just give her chocolate?

what happens if they give them nothing else to eat? will they not eventually get hungry and eat?

I appreciate that some children genuinly have a food phobia related to weaning and choking but if they can eat choc fingers and rice crispies covered in chocolate then i cant see that being the case

Do you think that much sugar over a 12 year period would have any effects on her health?

Exactly what I was just wondering....! Very bizarre, I'm sure it causes terrible problems, but when I was little I sat there until I had eaten what I was given or went without. I soon learnt!

the child that we knew, her mother used to just give her campbells condensed soup supplemented by crisps, trifle and biscuits.

She went to live with another girl from work for a while whilst her home was being refurbished. The child rapidly progressed to normal eating habits as nothing else was on offer. Kris never had biscuits etc in the house so the child was not being filled up on rubbish

FFS this is all about the mother - she won't LET him move on and try stuff, therefore he won't! Thta's just ridiculous isn't it?

I suppose it's easy for us to sit here and say something. Although I'm a meany and they either eat what I've cooked and that's it.

even bobby is filled up on yoghurts so why else would he want to try anything else.

I'm convinced that playing with the food etc and standing over him will not make him co-operate at all.

I wonder if its easier for some of these mothers to let them carry on as they do.

My friend just text to ask if i'm watching. She is the one that got the child from work colleague to eat. she just reminded me that said child would also eat chicken nuggets in macdonalds!

yes exacly, must be a very trying situation and very real if that's all your child will eat. i just don't get where the chocolate (and crisps) would have come into it.

i'd love to see supernanny deal with this rather than that gillian lady. She seems to be very soft on them all.

Bobby must be so pissed off with his parents trying to force feed him. no wonder he wont co-operate

Me too. My (almost) two year old went to bed this evening having eaten no tea whatsoever. He kept pushing his plate away and being silly - just would not touch it. Didn't even try it. So no pudding, no yogurt, just milk and bed. He'll be ready for his breakfast in the morning!!

(The plate of food is in the fridge, untouched, and he will be having it for his tea tomorrow night!) ?

Why are bobbys parents standing over them when they eat? They should be eating with them. I wouldn want to eat if i had someone standing over me!

Ok I should add onto the end of my post that most of the time I feed them food I know they like ? Although thankfully they do like some veg, potatoes and various meat things. B won't eat anything with onions or peas in though and A hates butter on her bread. Most of the time it saves on arguements and this means that they will try new things if I ask and 75% of the time what they said they'd hate they actually like ?

oh just asked me why they can't eat normal food but the phobia doesn't apply when macdonalds, chocolate and kiddie yoghurts are all set in front of them!

I really wouldnt have the patience for dealing with the parents of these children

gryfon, your kids are normal and will throw the head up at the odd food item. I had an aversion to peas as a child. I remember finding that i actually did like them but kept up the "hatred" as i'd always made such a fuss about them. lol

Its not normal to only give choc etc though and never try anything new

? No, but I think I am turning into mine!!

I wouldn't normally do that, but I had made enough for two nights as I won't have time to cook tomorrow, so would have been having it again anyway, and it is something he likes. Cottage pie and carrots. But he wouldn't even taste it this evening. Just kept saying "cake. caaaaaake." In a really pitiful voice (new word for the week, last week it was tooooooaaaaaaasttttttt!)

I do hope they teach the girl who will only eat chocolate to eat with her mouth closed, the way she was eating her chocolate earlier was disgusting!

    shudder!

I'm stunned by this, this poor little lad has never been allowed to try other foods, so surely its understandable he won't eat - he hasn't been given the option! As soon as he's out with his dad he's asking for a jumbo hot dog?!?!?

its lovely to see that little boy sitting with his brothers eating. just goes to show that the mother was keeping him from eating rather than him not being able to.

Yes sounds like the mother wanted him to stay as a baby. Struggled to let him go which is a shame for both him and her but in a way I can understand it, especially if she possibly wants another baby iykwim.

would you agree that Dr Gillian has been the cause of aaron eating or is it simply doing what the father wanted which was drop the bottles, let him out to play and work up an attitude so he would eat himself.

We think the fathers idea worked a treat and did not need a trip to dr gillian for help
