My Dress Dilemma!

babysarahx, 2 September, 2009 at 19:59 Posted on Planning 0 17

Hello- haven't posted on here for a little while but I'm at my wits end and looking for a little hitchers advice please! Our wedding is at the end of March so I have just over 6 months to go and I can't pick a dress! I started trying them on way back in March this year and found 3 that I really liked. Now it's down to 2 and I have to order the dress by the end of this week to get it in time for the wedding and I still really can't decide!

This first one is one that I tried on because it looked like a princess dress (It's alot more sparkly than it looks in the pic) which wasn't what I was looking for but when I put it on I cried cos I loved it! It made all the people in the shop turn around and say wow which I what I want but I don't think that H2B will like it. He doesn't like big dresses or lots of detail...

This second one is perfect for the wedding (it's not a big doo!) and has a lovely amount of sparkle on it and I know that H2B would love this one...but I'm just not too sure on it. It fits perfectly and is really flattering and made my Mum cry! I just didn't really like the material but it wasn't too bad..

So hitchers- which one do you like? Do I go with the one that makes me feel like a princess but will look a bit out of place and H2B won't like....or do I go with the one that I like, everyone else loves but the material isn't quite right? Or do I just go find something else??!!! I'm sorry I'm just so confused!

Thanks

Sarah x

It really is down to your taste, and I think your H2B will love you and think you look beautiful in whatever you wear! Go with the one you love or you will look back at pics and regret it.

Personally though I prefer the second one even though the first is more my style! I think if someone has the figure to pull that syle off it looks stunning and show stopping!

    Wow, that's tricky.

I personally prefer the second one (as it is very like my dress, lol) but since neither of them are on you, I might be totally wrong in which one suits you best.

Are you sure your H2B wouldn't like the first one? My H2B kept saying he didn't like anything too 'big, frilly, or sticky outy' but when I've been showing him pics of Hitched girls' dresses I have been surprised which ones he likes. Men are useless when it comes to imagining how dresses will look once they are on you!

I've tried on the 2nd one and it was my favourite out of all those in that shop. Could you go for a compromise and get one with a bit more 'going on' in terms of sparkle but stick with the slimmer shape? I went for Maggie's Coco in the end which has the slim aspect of number 2, but some sparkle/lace etc like number 1.

Both gorgeous- and the one above. But you have got to get the one YOU want. My mammy still regrets not having her dream dress over 30 years ago, and I went for 'my' dress even though I had almost bought the one OH loved more.

And now I am well happy!

As others have said, you have to go for the one that you want. At the end of the day, your h2b will love it whatever. THere is no point wearing a dress you are not comfortable with,.

I agree, it's about what you like, and starting to cry because you love the dress is a point to go by I think, and H2B will love whatever you wear....I really like the first one.

All three are really beautiful - I say go for the one you love most (as others have said). If you make your choice based on what you think is expected of you - rather than what you really want, you nay regret it. You only get married once (hopefully) - when else will you get a chance to wear a princess dress? I'm sure your OH will love whatever you're wearing.

I really like them both. How many times have you tried them on? it might be worth another try of them both. And seeing as you'd be in the shop, try on a couple more in each style, there may be one you love in the right material.

Definitely go for a dress that you love. The thing is with picking out dresses from pictures is that it's totally different from seeing them on you. If it looked great on you, I'm sure h2b would think so too.

I wore a dress which was completely against every checklist box I had. I didnt want anything fluffy, pink or with any kind of detail or embroidery. I wore this!

I didnt even want to try it on but my mum picked it out and I did more to say no right away. I'd had a sleeky one in mind but when I tried them on they looked wrong.

Personally I much prefer the second because I don't like big dresses but I think you have to get the dress you want. My only concern is maybe neither are perfect, I have fallen in love with a couple of dresses but there has always been a "it would be perfect if it had..." eventually I found one that took the best of all the things I liked. I know what you mean about your OH though as I know that mine would prefer me in a certain style and that definatly influanced my decision.

They are both nice dresses. To be honest I would be inclined to say go with the first one because you obviously love it. Even though you think it is not what OH would go for, he will probably love you in it on the day. It doesn't matter that you are not having a 'big doo!', go for the dress you love. You really don't sound too sold on the second one.

I think they are both gorgeous but quite different.

I say go with the one that YOU like best as you've got to be happy. Your OH will be blown away whatever you wear!!!!

Aww thank you so much for all your advice ladies! I really appreciate it cos this has really been stressing me out!

I've tried both the dresses on twice and still couldn't decide. The first one makes me look and feel like a princess and the second makes me look lovely and elegant and sophisticated!

I'm going to listen to you all and go try on some other dresses this weekend. Maybe I can find something in between the two and makes me feel and look all of the above!

    Thanks again x

Both Dresses are stunning but personally I would go for dress 2, but then I would seeing as that is my dress. If I was you i'd go and try both dresses on again as you will know which one if either is the one when you try it on. I knew instantly and to be honest it's not even the style that I originally wanted,

Good luck and I hope you find the one you want.

Let us know how you get on! I agree with everyone here that you should go with the one that makes you feel the best - the one that makes you feel like you. Put aside what you think your H2B likes - fellas are rubbish at knowing what they like on girls. For instance, my BF's fella was horrified when she announced she was going to chop all of her hair off, but when it was done he thought she looked amazing and really doesn't want her to grow it out. Just one example, but I think it's fairly common.... If your fella loves you and you think you look fab in a dress, he is bound to as well.
