My dress is no use :-((((((

gheko, 8 March, 2012 at 16:57 Posted on Planning 0 29

Went for my first fitting today which resulted in tears! and not happy ones.

Despite me losing weight the dress fits nowhere. The bust on my dress is bigger than the sample dress in store which is bigger. The detailing is all coming loose, the material different and in general just a poorly made bad quality dress. It actually looks like a rip off copy of the designer gown. It is lace up at the back and the actual panel was stretched across the whole width of my back.

Comparing it next to the sample it is nothing like it and just looks cheap and tatty.

I have less than five weeks to go and at the moment have no dress. They are rushing in another one but if this is poor quality too then i am back to square one.

Is it supposed to be from a reputable designer? It sounds like they've bought in a copy?

I would definitely call them out on all of this - this doesn't sound right at all!

Does the shop have any samples you could purchase or are there any other shops you could go to for a back up from their sample rail?

It defo isnt supposed to be a copy, am buying it from a bridal shop (not cheap either), it just looks like one.

The staff were helpful and mortified really. All i can do is wait and see what the next one is like, if no use then need to trail the shops to buy a sample one.

I hope they get a replacement through for you asap. Hopefully between the shop and the designer they'll be embarrassed enough to sort this out for you as a prioirity especially given the time and money you spend in a boutique when you have had the option of getting a cheap copy yourself if you had wanted to!!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I'd find the contact details for the manufacturer and contact them direct to tell them your concerns as it sounds like the store are trying to rip you off.

How quickly can the get the replacement in? Whether they come through or not I would not expect you to pay full price. The stress this must be causing is inexcusable!!

That is terrible! My dress is Rosetta Nicolini and I believe they are only stocked at one 'chain' of bridal stores who order their dresses to be in 6 weeks before the wedding as standard. I hope you get it sorted and I am now terrified of what mine will be like. What style did you get?

What an awful thing to happen, I really feel for you. As someone else said can you have the sample dress made to fit you in case the new one is poor quality too? What have the shop said about the fact the one that came in was rubbish? I would be seriously stamping my feet and throwing toys out of my pram if this happened to me, there's no way they can expect you pay for this!

I am so angry on your behalf. It really does sound like they have taken your money but ordered you a knock off for half the price - probably hoping you wouldn't notice. I would be really firm with them (I guess they are quickly trying to order you a genuine and act innocent in the meantime!) and make sure you get some money back. accessories thrown in and a bl**dy good apology, and as others have suggested ask about having the sample in the meantime.

Now I am dead nervous that I'm going to experience this too ?

That is dreadful, have they explained why the dress is so inferior. Do you think it would be worth contacting the designer direct to find out if they ever actually ordered it from them?

OMG that's shocking. I really hope it works out and they get a dress of good quality to u ASAP!

My dress isn't the same designer but from the same "chain" as I believe only that chain stocks your designer. My dress is currently sitting in the store but my first appointment isn't until 20 April. I may arrange to go in and check it over this weekend just to be sure......

Berketex HQ number is: ****. you probably need to start there. Perhaps like someone said, your particular store is being underhanded and HQ need to investigate.

I'm sorry to hear you are even in this situation, on a purely practical point. I would suggest that you connect your wedding insurers to see where you stand with them on this situation and if you haven't already, then get some photos of the dress that arrived for you as if the ensurer were to take any action against the shop/designer this might be helpful to them.

I know it doesn't take any of the present problem away but this is why we take out wedding insurance.

I wish you the very best of luck,

    L x

This is just rubbish, I can't believe they would try to palm off some sub standard dress for the most special day of your life, just reinforces my desire to never go into one of those big chains. I've googled the hell out of the designers name and bizarrely if you make it .com it directs you to...the chain. I don't even think such a person exists, I'm wondering if it is a name they made up to make it sound Italian and designer but in fact it's just their own brand (or one of). I definitely think it's worth making head office aware of your disappointment as they might be able to influence a resolution to the problem - I think if I were in your position i'd be asking them to get another two dresses in. I really hope you get this sorted x

I feel so bad for you, stamp your feet at the boutique and call everyday, explain that if a dress of the same quality isn't received and soon that you will seek legal advice, showing you one dress and then shipping in a copy is a definite no no for both the legal side of things and their reputation. Don't panic and get looking for a possible replacement if the next dress is of the same quality, did they agree in the shop that the dress was definitely inferior to their sample?

Yes there was no dispute in the shop, it just wasn't made right and size wise was all to pot too. Head office are rushing another one in so its a case of wait and see what the next one is like. I don't know if that one was a copy but it certainly wasnt up to the same standard as the other one.

Gheko this is just hellish but it sounds like the shop know they're in big do-do if they mess up again. they will make sure you habe your gorgeous dress in time i'm quite sure of it.this could be a publicity nightmare if not! x

Simply awful. Agree with HLT, sounds like they have ordered a knock off at boutique prices. Really hope this gets sorted for you, and soon.
