My First AIBU

GemBear, 6 February, 2009 at 14:34 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 35

In an attempt to post more I thought I'd ask your opinion on this. It's no big deal but it's really pi**ed me off!

I have an i-pod nano that I bought for gym use. Just a small 4g one but it was plenty big enough to hold all the music I wanted. Now I haven't been to the gym for months as I'm on maternity leave so I haven't been using my i-pod. A few weeks ago H asked if he could borrow my nano for when he goes running as it's smaller/lighter than his 80g i-pod. I told him this was fine and thought no more about it. He has now upgraded and bought himself a new music player that he can use when running and my nano is now plugged in to the speakers in the kitchen (he listens to it when washing up!) I've just been cleaning the kitchen and thought I'd have a listen to some music only to find that he has deleted all of my albums/playlists and my i-pod is now filled with his music!

I think this is a bit out of order so I called him at work. I didn't rant or anything, asked him how his day had been so far etc and then said "by the way, I can't believe you've deleted all my music from my own i-pod, how rude!" He replied that he had told me he'd done that (which he hasn't) but surely that's beside the point and he should have consulted me before doing so?!

He then said he was having a sh*t day and I'd just made it worse by having a go at him! So now I feel bad and I don't think I should!

So, AIBU to be annoyed about this or has he been a bit cheeky?

Thanks

Gem

You aren't BU to feel annoyed, but I think you were a bit silly to have a go at him for it - it's done now, he can't change it, I'm sure he didn't mean to hurt/annoy/inconvenience you.

I don't think you're necessarily being unreasonable to be a bit miffed about this, but it's surely not that big a deal that you have to call him at work to tell him off about it? I'd be annoyed if my H rang to tell me off during the day.

I'd have left it until he got home and then asked him to put your stuff back on.

I'd be furious if Mr Hole deleted all my music from my iPod, absolutely apoplectic, but then I listen to my iPod every day.

I suspect your H has gone on the defensive because he knows he's in the wrong, I'd be making sure he replaces ALL my music.

I think he's probably been a bit cheeky - it's your iPod after all but I don't think it's worth a row over. You can easily change it back to what you want.

To be honest, I'd be a bit miffed, but certainly wouldn't call my H at work to have a go about it! (just as much as I would not expect him to call me at work about such stuff). To me it is the sort of thing to talk about at home.

I don't think your BU about him deleting all your stuff, I wouldn't have called him at work though.

I'd have waiting until he was chilling/watching tv/reading etc then handed him the ipod and said' while you ahve 5 minutes can you put my music back on here so I can use it at the gym please, ta'.

Yeah you're probably right, I shouldn't have called him but it was it was a bit of a knee jerk reaction I'm afraid! Oh well, I'm sure we'll get over it!

    Cheers

ETA: We don't generally do rows so it will certainly be forgotten by the time he comes home. I will be making sure my music goes back on though!

You lot are much calmer than me. If Mr Hole did that to me, I'd call him and bollock him about it at work, and then bollock him again when he got home ?

Ha ha - calm is not a word often used to describe me! T'is not worth trying to argue with H, he just ignores and/or looks bemused, waste of time!

When you say he's deleted your music, do you mean he's just deleted it off the ipod and uploaded new playlists, or actually deleted the source files from your PC?

If it's just the playlists, just connect it back into iTunes and put your own playlists back on? The music/playlists should still be intact in iTunes, right?

I'm not sure why he'd bother to delete the actual source files from your PC? Wouldn't make any sense? ?

WHHS. mainly because there are some tracks on there that are pretty much irreplaceable. If I borrowed his ipod and wiped it I'd expect a similar bollocking.

Not all of the tracks are on my comp though (maybe the OP's are). Don't know about the OP but it took me bloody ages to decide what was going on my 8g Nano, which is now full. i spent loads of time considering what went on it and I'd be pretty miffed to have to do it all again.

He did say he could put them back on so I guess they're still on the PC. He does all the downloading etc from the desktop. I could go and check but it's up in the loft and it's comfy here on the sofa...

I didn't realise they'd still be on the pc when I called him though, I thought they were gone forever. (technology is not my strong point!) Some of those playlists were works of art so I was gutted when I thought they'd been lost!

If h asked to borrow mine then the last thing I would expect was for him to listen to my music. And it will only take a coule of minutes for you to get yours back on so I think you are being a little unreasanoable.

OK, I'm either being thick here or must have my iPod set up a bit differently... how can you have tracks on the iPod without them being on your PC? If I delete a music file from my PC, the next time I connect/sync my iPod, a popup msg appears in iTunes saying "this file could not be synced because source file could not be found" (or something similar)... it'll then sync my iPod and remove that file from it.

Does it happen differently on others? Would actually be good to know how to keep stuff on iPod that isn't on PC. Very handy.

WSS. I'd be royally f ucked off in your shoes, but i think you've handled it badly, and now you're on the back foot. I'd make him his favourite dinner tongiht and butter him up and then ask him to help you fix it.

I wouldn't make the nice dinner either - that'd be rewarding him for being bad ?.

Ah right. So he hasn't actually deleted anything, he's just synced some different playlists?

I think you owe him an apology, especially for phoning him at work over an iPod ?

Since the music remains on the pc, its hardly the end of the world. i can understand you being annoyed when you came to use it, but really, its not a big deal since he can change it back within a few minutes.

Oh god, if you thought they were gone for good, I am definitely not ssurprised at your level of pissed-off-ness ? However, it does mean that you have definitely over-reacted and will have to apologise and cook his favourite dinner.

To be fair he'd have been getting a nice dinner anyway and I certainly wouldn't withhold it over an I-pod!

I never sync my ipod. That option's been switched off on all our comps and anything uploaded onto the ipod is done manually. Means I can switch between imac, powerbook and ibook no problem. Which means I've got tracks from friends etc that I've gotten from their comps too.

How can you upload files manually then?

I thought (in order to get files onto your ipod) the process was: double click the source mp3/4... it opens in iTunes. You enter all it's details, create playlists etc.... then click the 'sync' button which transfers it all to the iPod.

How do you do it without the above steps then? How do you create playlists?

Open itunes. Connect ipod. Don't allow it to sync. Switch off sutomatic sync option. Click and drag any of your itunes playlists into the ipod which will have appeared in the left hand menu. Eject ipod. Hurrah!

You can create playlists in itunes.

    itunes is your friend.

TBH, he probably thought you were overreacting but if you explain you thought they were lost forever and just ask him to re-load yours for you.

Blimey - I must be in a chilled mood today, H only has to eat the last bag of french fries and i sulk.?

? I realise you create playlists in iTunes, I meant in the context of not syncing through iTunes.

But you're still using iTunes I see. Didn't realise there was a drag and drop element to it. I thought sync was the only way. Might have a little play when I get home.

    ?

Can I just add a disclaimer here that, if when having a little play your ipod is deleted, you won't call me at work, or indeed anywhere and tell me off?

Frankly I'd be most concerned about where you got my number. ?
