My first flash!

Bee26, 6 March, 2012 at 21:53 Posted on Planning 0 29

Right so here is my first flash, I have quite a while to go so not much is booked just my venue and tog, Im really looking for opinions on whether my venue will look ok with the colour I have in mind for flowers and BM. Here goes!

Outside of the venue

Ceremony room, Im thinking of purple chair sashes though

Room for the wedding breakfast and reception, again with purple chair sashes

Bar area, open throughout the meal and evening reception and joins onto the ballroom (above)

Bridesmaid dress that I really love! This is the colour purple im thinking of

Bouquet for bridesmaids

Bouquet for me?

So what are your honest opinions? Will the purple go with the very yellow ceremony room? Id also idealy like to have another colour as well so my flowers were purle white and something else but im having a hard time imagining what else will go with the yellow ceremony room without looking too vulgar. I love teal but i can imagine that really clashing? Id love to have another colour involved with the centrepieces too. Any advice appreciated!

I think the purple will look nice with the yellow. You could even add yellow as your additional colour, as the yellow flowers in the picture look nice in the yellow room. But I think teal would look good as well.

I did think of yellow, was just a bit worried it might be TOO yellow! But your right the pic has loads of yellow and looks nice. What about the reception room that has quite a bit of pale blue in it, would that look ok with purple and yellow?

Ooh I do like that orange. Looks very warm with the purple, could be an option.

What a pretty venue! I don't think teal would clash with purple at all, but I have seen a few Hitcher's posts saying it can be a hard colour to match up.

It all looks lovely bee! I reckon you could definitely slot some teal in there somewhere.

I found this the teal is more prominent but it shows all three colours working together!

Purple and yellow go beautifully together, so i would go for it. maybe go for ivory or cream roses in the bouquets and not the white as it will loo a bit stark against the purple, you could even add a hint of yellow in the bouquts too, mabe yellow pearl sprays or pearl pins in the roses, or ribbon bows. hope this helps a bit

Sure, we haven't gone with any of their recommendations purely because we met some really nice suppliers at local wedding fairs. The DJ we're going with are called Spotlight Entertainments, there really nice and very helpful, they've also played at Glenmore before so know about the sound volume. The colours we may be going with are sage green and charcoal grey, it's not for certain yet as we'll be buying the bridesmaids dresses next week.

We've decided against chair covers, so it'll only be the table centre pieces to think about.

We found out about the venue from a friend who's a Freemason and goes there for the meetings, him and his wife always rave about the food! You must go to one of their Sunday caverys, we booked the venue straight away after that! Let me know if there's any other suppliers you may need? Where you two from?

Yeah the reviews on hitched all go on about how amazing the food is! Good idea about going to the carvery beforehand it hadn't crossed my mind for some reason! We're probably going to go with their DJ, had a chat with him and he seems nice an cant argue with his price. Tog, cake, florist and chair cover supplier are all pretty much decided but if I think of any ill let u know! We're from Mitcham near wimbledon what about u? Not long to go for you now, I can't wait to hear how your day goes!

    Lovely Venue

I spend hours teaching kids this but Yellow and Purple are complementary colours, meaning they will make each other stand out and accent each other

Blue and purple are harmonising colours, so they blend well together, so overall the colour scheme should work really well, Blue and yellow should also look good as blue is so close to purple in colour

(I'm an art teacher and spend ages convincing kids that they need to know about colours for questions such as this lol!)

Wow it looks like your pretty much set! I'm now starting to quietly panic, still have soo much to do but hopefully it should come together after BM dresses are bought!

Im originally from Tooting and my OH is from Mitcham (he says he's from Wimbledon though as his dads got a Wimbledon post code!). We now live together in Sutton, but my wedding car will pick me up from my parents in Tooting.

Trying to work out from your ticker, are you getting married next September?

Oh very local to us then, my mum lives in Wimbledon too! I know someone else from Mitcham who's getting married at glenmore, must be the place to be! Close, it's beginning of August, are u this september?

Well I only have those things decided as my mums a cake decorator so will be doing my cake and she got married last year at the grange so I'll be using the same florist she had and chair cover person. Can I ask what music you're into? Only because we want very modern rnb, garage, funky house etc and the recommended dj although he say he'll play what we want it didn't really seem to be his thing an I'd prefer a dj who was into the same music if possible. Are you getting a harpist or anything for the ceremony (assuming you're actually getting married there too?)

I think Laura (the wedding co-ordinator) told us last December that there was 52 weddings booked for 2012! Bit gutted that there is a wedding on the Friday before ours so we can't set up until 9 am on the day, hopefully my BM's will be able to help me out then, so should all work out fine.

We're using a Florist from Wimbledon Village as she seems quite helpful and reasonable. Our DJ have told us we can request 20-30 specific songs that we want to be played and what music we don't want to be played (e.g abba or bee gees!), then as they have up to 20,000 songs with them the guests can request some music and they said they will also slot in other music that will go with our selections. maybe ask your DJ if you can select some songs that you definately want to be played and hopefully they can mix some other good songs into the playlist?

Oh yes we're getting married there and having the reception there too. We have hired a harpist, i did try to contact the lady they suggested but she never replied to my emails or phone messages so i gave up! I've ended up booking a lovely lady my friend used for her wedding. Harpist prices i noticed vary from £200-380 just for the ceremony. We're paying £400 for the ceremony and wedding breakfast. hope this helps.

Our weddings on a friday so i guess we'll be able to set up the day before then...have u much to do? Do you have to set up chair covers and sashes yourself?

The DJ said before the wedding he'll give us his folder of his songs which we can keep for 6 weeks and pick all the songs we want, anything he hasnt got he'll get for us from itunes so hopefully will all be fine! He plays at a pub in Croydon as well so he said we could go down to see him in action which we'll do in the next few weeks. I just spoke to that harpist and she said she hasnt played professionally in over a year!! Will have to let them know! I only started thinking about having a harp when i saw a thread on here about it and started you tubing some harp music, we havent budgeted for it so maybe we'll just try and download the harp versions of the songs we want! Have u had your food tasting yet then? How many guests do you have coming? Sorry for all the questions, just nice to speak to someone about our venue, my OH thinks theres no point discussing things this early, hes watched Dont Tell the Bride and thinks the organising will only take three weeks LOL men ay!!

To be fair we don't have much to set up, just the centre pieces for the tables but I do like to be organised and would've preferred to not have to do it on the day. We've decided to not have have any chair covers or sashes, so i suppose that's one less thing to do.

I'd definately go and see your DJ play, as it will also give you some piece of mind. Are you able to look at his songs now or is it only 6 weeks before the wedding. Thanks for letting me know about the harpist, that's probably why she didn't want to reply to us, but you would think a simple email to let us know would have been helpful, oh well! I think originally we was going to hire a pianist, but my OH kept on changing his mind and so last month we finally decided on having a harpist!

We haven't had the food tasting yet, that will be in mid-June as the food will be in season so it will be better to try everything then. We're looking to have about 60-65 people for the day (ceremony and wedding breakfast) then an extra 20 or so for the evening, may have a little buffet for the extra guests which doesn't work out to be too much extra.

Don't worry ask as many questions as you like, when i first booked our venue i loved it straight away. But lots of people on here are getting married in Hotels or lovely Churches and i did worry for a bit that our venue wouldn't have the same wow factor as them, but we still love it and at the end of the day it is what we think about it that counts the most!

Im not sure when we get the folder, ill ask him when we go to see him play maybe we can have a peek a bit earlier! Have you an idea what food you want yet? It all sounds lovely doesnt it. I love fish and the more unusual things but we have a lot of 'typical English' friends who turn their noses up at anything new so we'll probably just have the chicken!

Well we have a guest list of about 140! About 30 of those are kids so im hoping a lot of people will want to get sitters for the day which will bring the numbers down a bit. Are you having a buffet for just 20 then? How will that work, will the daytime guests know its not for them? Theyll probably be too full going by what ive read about the meal sizes. I am worried about putting on an evening buffet for 100+, everyone keeps telling me you have to do it but I think it will be wasted.

I think the inside of our venue is just as nice, if not nicer, than a lot of the expensive hotels ive seen on dont tell the bride. The only thing I ws disappointed about was that there werent any garden areas but tbh I want people to be inside enjoying the party ive spent thousands on not outside enjoying the scenery! I dont feel ive compromised on venue at all, even though our search was purely driven by low budget, I really love the place and think we will both have an amazing day.

I think we'll either go with the beef or lamb, as Chicken sometimes may not be special enough. I would love to go for the fish, but i don't the majority of our guests would actually eat it!! Wow that's alot of people, i think we only have about 10 kiddies coming ranging form 11 months to 13 years old! Oh the buffet would cater for all the guests so about 80 in total, i'm not afraid about no one eating my family are like pigs, and would hate it going to waste so will keep going back for more!! I think with the buffet you only cater for 75% of the total guests, so hopefully there shouldn't be too much waste going on.

The Elizabethan room definately has a bit of WOW going on and i do like the fact we have our own bar area (drinks at pub prices too), there is a bit of space out the front called the crescent where some of the nice wedding photos can be taken.

When i was talking to our friend who is doing our photography, i sent him some links of some wedding photos of our venue, it's always lovely to have a look.

The couple had both the civil ceremony and reception at Glenmore House.

Yes I absolutely love the bar its like a little nightclub! Nice to have a modern looking area as well as the Elizabethan suite, definitely makes it more 'us'. Ooh thanks for those links, pics look lovely. Im so jealous that you only have 5 months to go! Cant wait to here about your day. Dont know if I mentioned before but the florist im using actually got married at glenmore too and said it was amazing, the only negative she said was that because of the sprung dancefloor the music sometimes skipped. I mentioned it to Robert and he said its because she had her DJ (not the recommended one) set up in the wrong place so make sure yours sets up where they suggest!
