My first flash - shoes!

MAG2FMC, 3 May, 2012 at 12:20 Posted on Planning 0 8

Given the mishap with my dress (on another post, regarding my stupidly not checking for stains on a pre-loved dress), I thought I would console myself by making a decision on my wedding shoes. After MONTHS of debating, I've decided to pull the trigger with these. They'll match the color scheme of my BMs' dresses.

These are the Nina 'Neva' shoes. i bought them from Macy's, which does international shipping, though I think they're also available from Nordstrom's, Dillard's, and Zappo's.

    Thank you. Smiley smile

Sadly, yes and no. I took it yesterday to a couple specialty dry cleaners, but each said basically the same thing.

    - That the dress had been 'cleaned' but not 'dry cleaned.' It looked as if they had dipped the train in soap and water in an attempt to get out the stains, but what that did was actually set some of the stains in and changed the feel of the fabric.

    - The dry cleaner could try to get the stains out but it would be entirely at owner's risk, and can't be guaranteed given that they had no idea what the dress had previously been cleaned in.

    - Also pointed out that the prior seamstress had done such a poor job of hemming the train that it laid twisted.

All in all, it might cost more to get the dress cleaned and altered properly than the dress is worth -- and without any guarantee of anything working.

    Caveat emptor (buyer beware).
