My first post and ER flash

LisaKirsten, 11 August, 2015 at 22:59 Posted on Planning 0 11

Hi there. I'm new to the site So would just like to say hi and congrats all on getting engaged!

I Got engaged on 4th June this year to my h2b who I have been with for 7 years. He proposed with this ring (sorry it's sideways/huge etc) I love my ring and how non traditional it is. Although I have had some negative comments - it looks like you're already married, it's very 'delicate' etc. nonetheless, it's mine and it suits me.

we're not looking to set a date for a while. Realistically looking at 2018! ? as we're hoping to buy a house next year then need another year or so to save. I've started looking around and getting ideas for all sorts (can't help myself!) but I'm torn on what style of ring to go for. I initially thought plain band but think it'll be too boring so I'm thinking now a different style eternity ring which will look nice stacked. Or an intricate ring like this in same metal as ER.

What are your thoughts? Do any of you have eternity ring engagement rings? How did you style with a wedding ring? Would love to see your pics.

sorry it was such a long post!! Thanks for reading. X

Congratulations on your engagement! It's a beautiful ring and the 2nd picture of the potential ER ring is also lovely!

Dont worry about what other people think. as omg as you love it it's all that matters. My wedding band is actually an eternity ring. I told my other half that I do not expect an eternity ring after we're married after x years, so we can just buy an eternity as the wedding band. My ER IS A simple single princess cut ring. The band being something more delicate (I don't plan on wearing 2 rings at the same time):

    Congratulations and welcome! ?
I can see what people mean about your engagement ring, but it wouldn't bother me! I think it's great that you have a non-traditional ring! ?
I like your idea for the other ring. I think they will look good together.

Hi and congratulations. I have a standard solitaire engagement ring and as I'm not a ring wearer I hardly ever wear it. Can't flash as I'm on holiday and didn't even bring it with me!

I also have an diamond eternity ring a bit like your engagement ring. Also sat home in the jewellery box.

my issue was I need a wedding ring for the ceremony which I KNOW will be a third ring sat in the box so I intend to use my eternity ring as a wedding ring for the ceremony.

my h2b probably won't have a wedding ring either at all.

when I want to wear my rings they go nicely together and when I don't I won't feel guilty about more money going to waste and it keeps our wedding budget down.

have what you want. Just because it doesn't look like other peoples concept of an engagement rings doesn't mean it's not an engagement ring. He proposed and gave you a ring and you love it therefore it's an engagement ring.

I like it. And I love the fancy band you posted.

dare to be different I say. X

Congrats on getting engaged! Your ring is beautiful and that is a lovely idea of getting something intricate like your example for your wedding ring!

I have a solitaire engagement ring but with an unusual setting, and my wedding ring is a half eternity ring. I also think it is most important that you like your engagement ring!

    Hello!

Your engagement ring is beautiful. I love that other ring you posted too. I don't think a plain band is too boring though. It's classic and elegant. Good luck choosing!

Love that second ring you posted! I was initially gonna go for a plain band as my WR as it's a classic choice, but I ended up with one with diamonds. Together with my ER they look quite flashy and blingy, but I'm into big jewellery so they suit me perfectly. And I will probably add an eternity ring at some point too! Don't worry about what others say, just go with what feels right for you. However, if you aren't planning to get married til 2018, you have at least two years to think about it!

    Hi and welcome to hitched!

My rings are very non-traditional too and lots of people think my engagement ring is my wedding ring and vice versa. it doesn't bother me - they were exactly what I wanted at the time and still are ?

    This is my engagement ring:

    Hi, welcome and congratulations ?
I think your engagement ring is lovely and the second ring is gorgeous!
Don't worry about being different, I've had a lot of comments that my engagement ring isn't a 'proper' one...

This is the wedding ring I've chosen...

Firstly congratulations secondly what a beautiful ring! Mine is a twisted band with diamonds that most people would mistake as a wedding ring but you know what I love it! I was debating a traditional wedding band to tell the difference between them but when I started trying on I threw traditional out the window. If it doesn't matter to you if people get the rings confused than try on lots of styles until you find the one for you :-)

Thank you for all your lovely comments, you've given me lots to think about and as you say - I've got plenty of time to think about it! I'm sure I'll put up a flash once I finally get nearer the time and find one I like! X
