My friend and pirates.

LizBjk, 18 November, 2008 at 17:50 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

She's a bit dimb on occasions. I couldn't stop laughing today. We were in a shop when she loudly said "Have you heard about those pirates taking over that ship". I replied no. To which she said "I couldn't believe it when I heard, I thought pirates where pretend. I thought they only existed in peter pan". She was deadly serious. Me a shop assistant and another customer nearly fell over laughing. Bless her. ?

One of my Sixth Formers said the same thing today too....he then went on to ask if they would have a skull and crossbone flag on the boat so people knew they were pirates!!!!!! ??

That reminds me of someone I know who thought bats weren't real until she was 21. She thought they were only in stories about vampires and even fell out with her boyfriend over it. (Only for a little while though as he couldn't stop laughing at her.)

It wasn't me. No siree bob. <whistles>

The same person may also have thought pirates were long gone until quite recently. Arrrrr. <whistles more>

I was in a shop today and the woman behind the counter was telling me and another customer about her and her daughter watching the news about the pirates and her daughter was really surprised that they weren't dressed like Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Caribbean.

I'd be GUTTED if I got taken hostage by a pirate and he didn't look like Johhny Depp. Absolutely gutted.

<random fact> my last job involved pirate-hunting. Not one of them ever looked like Jonny Depp. Not a single one. <random fact>

This post has cheered me up no end.

Ding Dopper- what a great job, shame about the lack of Deppness though. How on earth do you follow a job like that?

Nothing to do with pirates, but my friends daughter thought there were five moons!!

Also, mr fc's mates' wife was on holiday and wished the moon in scotland looked like the moon in spain or wherever. On being told it was the same moon, she said "Oh! I thought each country had its own moon"! waaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!

    <dumbass confession> ?

You're friend isn't the only one who didn't believe pirates were real, me and my mum both made the same comment, and we both thought that they were just something that happened years ago.

What made it so funny was that my friend never thought they existed at all. She thought it was a fantasy thing. Sort of like tinkerbell. ?

? Thanks guys, that's cheered up a rubbish morning.

The pirate thing I can *just about* understand why you might think like that, but bats?! Mrs M, really... ?

Actually read part of a report a while back on maritime security which strongly urged shipping companies to use the term 'hijackers' rather than 'pirates' as the image of the pirate in popular culture was leading to the issue being trivialised.

On a slightly more serious note... I see Blackwater have opened a maritime security branch, complete with a blue water capable vessel.....
