My friend got robbed in Morrisons

Hi all

My poor friend got robbed in Morrisons a couple of days ago. She went to Lloyds TSB and withdrew £1500.00. The cashier put the money in an envelope and gave it to her with her bank card. She put the envelope with money in her handbag and the card in her pocket as she knew she was going to use it for shopping and did not want to be openening her bag in the supermarket with all that money inside. She has been saving this money since December last year to go on holiday next month. So she went to Morrrisons and while she was standing by the packed ham fridge this foreign couple came up to her and the man took the jacket off her and told her it was dirty. They started cleaning her jacket with this tissue they had which had a strong smell and had herbs in it. The girl was behind her and the man was in front of her and they kept touching her and saying that her clothes were dirty and she asked them to leave her, Then the girl walked away and the man threw the jacket a my friend and ledft. My friend said it was all a blur and she was a bit dizzy but after they left her she continued her shopping. She got to the till and noticed that her handbag was half open but did not think anything of it. Only when she went to Abbey to put the money in her other account she opened her handbag and realised the envelope with all the money was missing and that is when she put 2 and 2 together and realised it must of have been the couple in Morrrions. We called the police, told them what happened, spoke to both managers of Lloyds and Morrisons and are now waiting to hear from the police. They took her clothes and the tissue with herbs as evidence and said they were going to request the CCTV footage from Morrisons and Lloyds as they reckon she was followed from the bank. My friend has not stoped crying since and can not believe all her holiday money has gone. Someone told me that she probably would be able to claim that money on insurance, but what insurance? Lloyds insurance? Morrisons? Her card's? I have no idea, i really want to help her get some of her money back but i know it is not going to be possible.

Can anyone suggest anything? I know the thieves will never be caught and that the police won't be able to recover the money but i just wanted to give her some hope. She hardly splept the last 2 nights.

Thanks for reading

What a horrible experience - it sounds almost like something out of an urban myth.

On the other hand, who wanders round town with a grand and a half in thier bag these days ?

    Horrible experience.

And this might make it worse - I doubt her cash will be covered by any insurance. Unless she has home contents insurance that covers contents away from home and that covers cash.

As someone who works for said bank, there is no way that she'll get the money back through them....think home insurance if she has personal belongings outside the house as part of her cover, although the cash limit is usually only £250 - £500

Sorry to hear this, sounds awful x

What a horrible situation, I don't think any insurance will cover only maybe home insurance.

If she had been to one bank generally they are altogether why did she not bank it straight away? Sorry this question is being asked by her to now.

There is some really nasty people out there I hope the cctv helps her

    What a horrible experience.

When we were robbed on holiday we were able to claim some of the money on our home insurance as we had valuables away from home included in the policy. I think the maximum we could claim for was £500.
