My Handmade Invites are FINISHED! **FLASH**

NikiST, 18 March, 2011 at 14:52 Posted on Planning 0 27

Finally!!! As there's so much to include it's taken me a while and several trips back to Hobbycraft to get more supplies. And as i have a 2 year old running about in the day time I had no chance to do it until she was in bed so it was quite a long-winded project but I am pleased with the results!! Smiley smile Very relaxed wording.. the wedding is a small informal affair as you'll see by the Order of the Day card. The card that's sat inside the pocket is the RSVP card. So here they are!!!!

Sorry about the epic photos;

I'm not normally keen on butterfly stuff but they look rally pretty, well done!!

I'd love to receive one of those (*not inviting myself to your wedding, I'm just one of those losers who loves getting wedding invites to see how well they're made, if they were handmade, what colours etc etc*)

They are really lovely. Love the RSVPS too very nice.

For the order of the day is that white card you have printed on to or is it paper as I was thinking of mounting my orders of the day like that too but didn't know whether to use paper or card to print on before its mounted on the coloured card if that makes sense lol!

Lol Sherrie, not hard to work out from the name of the suite I guess if you live in or near Somerset!... I forgot those were in there. I didn't want anything too fussy as the wedding itself is very simple. Also because this was my first time making any kind of invite or card and I didn't want to have too much to do. Glad you like them. I feel better for sending them out now that I know people will probably like them! Smiley smile

It's paper mounted onto card. It's all paper mounted onto card. It's really nice Zeta paper, has a lovely feel to it. I have a huge box of scrap paper now though from dud print-outs! The kids can use them to scribble on! Smiley smile

H2B bought stamps on his way home from work this evening.. the stamps are for the RSVP envelopes so guests don't have to bother getting them, they'll be readily addressed and stamped. Just got to go to the post office and get some large letter stamps. I'm hoping they do a nice design thats different from the standard ones. I did consider the customised ones and having a photo of me and H2B but I didn't want to go OTT, lol!

Hi Niki, I love your invites and am about to order my materials just wanted to get a bit of advice from you - what adhesive or glue did you use to stick the paper to the backing card and to stick on the extra details like the gems and butterflies xx

    Hi Holly-Jayne..

Good question, it took me several attempts to get the adhesives right for each material. I used a gel-type super-glue for the gems. I put the very smallest amount underneath each one as the area of adhesive expands when pressed, I applied these using tweezers. Quite tricky. As for the paper, I was advised to use a strong pritt-stick because it wouldn't peel off or wrinkle the fine paper but it peeled off so I used double sided tape around the edges. I used a normal double sided craft tape to fix the paper onto the card but to put together the pockets on the invites I used stronger double sided stuff. For the butterflies, I used a tacky PVA type glue.. it was fast-grab adhesive that dries clear and I put very small dabs of it all around each butterfly. Fast-grab means what it says though. Almost as soon as it touches the paper you have a second or two to move it before it grabs completely.

I love them they are absolutely gorgeous!

I am having a butterfly theme and want something very similar myself although different colours.

Do you normally make invites etc or did you just do this specifically for your wedding?

One more thing where did you get the butterflies? Hobbycraft too??

    Gorgeous!!!!! xx

I used one of the main brands of super-glue.. make sure its in gel format because the watery type of super-glue will bleed through your paper. Double sided stuff. I used 3M double sided stuff which my H2B brought home from work.. can't recommend it enough as it's really really strong.. it's currently holding down my hall rug which kept rolling up at the bottom. You might find it in DIY shops as opposed to craft shops as its stronger than the craft stuff. Good luck and don't forget to flash when you've made them Smiley smile

This is the first time I've ever made anything like this. The butterflies were easy.. I bought a craft punch by Tonic studios although there are other types out there.. one by Martha Stewart which is nice too but not the style I was looking for. I just punched them from paper or card. I do a lot of scrap-booking though so the craft punches I buy will get plenty of use. x
