My Hen Weekend! Tale as old as Time

Sondy, 29 May, 2016 at 17:26 Posted on Planning 0 2

I'm just sitting on the sofa after the most fantastic weekend and thought I would share it with you all! It was all a complete surprise - I was told to pack a bag and be ready at midday where everyone would come to my place.

We were 8 hens in total which was a perfect number as it meant I could spend time with everyone. We started off with some 'welcome drinks' which were at my place. We cracked open the bubbly and I was given a beautiful dainty bracelet with a red rose on it (significance was understood later on!). I also had a pretty silver headband/tiara.

Then we set off in the car (two friends weren't drinking and drove us). We pulled up in front of one of my favourite hotel/restaurants which is in the middle of a stunning park which is where my fiance proposed. We had yummy afternoon tea - it was delicious and chatted. Many of the girls didn't know each other which I was initially anxious about but they all got on really well and made such an effort.

Stuffed after tea, we piled into the car once again and went to the hen venue which was my friend's flat which had been decked in beauty and the beast photos, icons, everything - it was amazing! Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite films and definitely my favourite Disney and it was so perfect. The theme was 'tale as old as time' - there were beautiful cakes that had been bought but also some homemade cupcakes made by friend with photos of my pet guineapigs on!

We all had lovely gift bags in which there were t-shirts, personalised pencils, sweeties- it was super! Best of all we had masks with my fiance's face on Smiley smile

They had bought in all of my favourite drinks/mixers and made a personalised cocktail menu themed around Beauty and the Beast. All so thoughtful!

We changed into PJ bottoms and started playing games. These included a wordsearch (hence the pencils!) where we had to find all the nicknames my fiance has for me - many are very funny.
After that they had jigsaw puzzle which was one of our favorite engagement photo shots which was really fun.

More drinks and giggles and a break for pizza. Then one of the hens, who used to be a professional chocolatier and often ran hen chocolate making workshops, led a workshop just for us! It was super - we made lindor truffles and they were delicious.

We then finished off with a personalised game of cards against humanity which was so funny and lovely because some of my hens who couldnt attend had contributed personalised scenarios and words. It was fab!

Spontaneously, some of us decided to go out clubbing (I'm not normally a clubber!) - it wasn't a big planned thing but it was so much fun - very relaxing. We didn't make into town before 1.30am and went to fab gay club where they were playing cheesy pop. I took my fiance mask with me and found a feather bower sash to wear and just had the most fantastic time. We came home while it was just about to get light and the birds were singing. It was amazing.

The next day I felt relatively fresh, considering and I was told to get ready for the last part of the hen: brunch in town. We went to a lovely cafe that I haven't been to before and had delicious brunch, so so tasty! We were on a table near the back and the cafe is part of a cinema where there's a big screen for movie nights. Just as they were about to bring our food, my friend told me to look at the screen and they started playing beauty and the beast - it wasn't loud but just perfect - an amazing way to round it off!

I got home, laden with cake and goodies and was just sent a link to a video by one of the friends who had edited a video with lots of messages from my hens wishing us congratulations and a final 'bonus message' from my hubby to be and 2 guinea pigs.

Just perfect!
