My honeymoon is being ruined!!!!!!!!!

Little Pixie , 7 February, 2012 at 08:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

Basically we were flying direct from Manchester to Kenya but now the manchester flights have been cancelled and we need to go from Gatwick. Thomson called and said they would sort it and give us £150 compensation. Fine, nice gesture.

Get to the shop yeaterday to discuss and they had knocked £150 off our final payment (great!) but out of this £150 they want us to arrange and pay for our own flights to and from Gatwick and also on the return flight we will need a hotel near the airport. Not only is this impossible for £150 but why the f&ck should we be organising this out and out of our compansation. Its not compensation if we have to use it!

Our direct 9 hours flight from manchester has now become a 20 hour travel a thon!

To complain I have to write a letter and wait 60 days for a response! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no! That sounds dreadful. I have no practical advice but surely if they are changing the flights then they need to re-arrange it all not you. And the £150 should be to compensate you for the inconvenience - not pay for their *** up!

I hope someone who can help a bit more comes along soon with some advice.

This is exactly what I thought! It would be the only fair and decent way of dealing with it. I am going to try and talk to the shop manager, see if I can get some sense out of her.

Isn't there a regualting body that travel companies have to be a member of? I'm sure there is, perhaps you could escalate it to them if you don't get anywhere with the manager?

ETA This is probably completely useless and I haven't got time to read through it at the moment but this is what I was thinking of https://www.abta.com/consumer-services

I'm sorry you are having to have all these issues but it's so worth it.

We live in the Manchester area and went on our Honeymoon to Kenya. We travelled down to Heathrow airport the night before and stayed at a hotel, which my parents bought us as a wedding present (just the night not the hotel,) which included parking for our car. Our flights were over night. We visited the airport lounge which we booked the night before. We had a fantastic Honeymoon. The flights home were again overnight and we landed at about 8 am. We drove home from the airport and just took the driving in turns. Could you not drive?

Are you doing Safari in Kenya??

    Yikes.

Hello1 Yes we have a 3 day safari. It's not the issue of actually travelling to London so much. More the fact that it was not part of the original plan and I don't see why I should be out of pocket for it.

I am still really looking forward to it though, just peed off with them thinking this is ok.

We are doing 2 days at baobab and then a 3 day safari taking in Tsavo east and west. Then back to baobab for the rest of it. I am so excited as I have always wanted to go there and see Giraffes. Bit annoyed that this Thomson c*ck up is putting a dampener on it. Trying to not let it ruin my excitement

And this is the safari (itinery at the bottom!) https://www.tui.co.uk/

We did a night in Nairobi, seven night safari. Another night in Nairobi then seven nights in Zanzibar.

Little tip that'll make you honeymoon go smoother: pack all your safari gear in a separate bag/holdall in your suitcase before you go then you can spend your time relaxing and spending time together and not worrying about you clothes and packing. We did it this way and it was so easy. The Nairobi hotel kept our luggage for Zanzibar. THe other couples took a suitcase and packed/unpacked in Nairobi and were all commenting on how stressful it was.

If I can help with anything else, PM me.

    Yikes.
