Well before I start my report, I will briefly tell you how my husband and I met. Three years ago, my friend Rachel and I went on holiday to Spain. On our first day, we decided to eat at a restaurant called the Penny Farthing. We chose it because it had a really good vegetarian selection (and I am a vegetarian). We were served by a rather charming waiter called Christian. As it turned out, he was usually the chef but on that day a waitress had called in sick and there was nobody else to cover.
We got chatting, and he asked us if we’d like to go for a drink after he finished work. We agreed, and ended up spending the rest of the week together (my friend met some other men, we didn’t just abandon her).
When Rachel and I went home at the end of the week, I felt really strange. I felt like everything was different now, but it was still the same. Christian said he waved us off and then walked down the same street he walked down every day, but had no idea what he was doing there.
When I got home we talked online every night. I ignored all the people who said it was a holiday romance, and it wouldn’t last. Christian decided to move back to England (he is originally from South Shields). We decided he would stay with me for a week or two and then find somewhere else to live. Well two weeks passed, and I admitted that I didn’t really want him to go. He admitted that he didn’t really want to go either. So he stayed.
A few months later, he got down on one knee. And now we are married!
So here is my wedding report! I will start with the lead up to the wedding…
Monday
My colleagues took me out after work to celebrate the wedding. They had kept everything a surprise, and they paid for everything, which was really lovely. We went bowling (I came second) and then for a meal. They presented me with a really sweet poem they had written me, which was really touching.
Tuesday
It was my last day at work before the wedding. Since we had been out to celebrate the night before, I wasn’t really in the mood to work any more. Especially since my desk was covered in confetti, with a ‘Good Luck’ balloon perched on top, and I was instructed to wear a ‘Bride to Be’ sash. My manager sternly called me into our team’s main office where all the colleagues on our floor gathered round me, and I was presented with gifts.
My manager read out a poem which she had written for me, which was both funny and lovely. I was given a card that everyone had signed, a Mr and Mrs mug set, a little ornament of a loving couple, a bottle of wine and a gift voucher. I was really overwhelmed by how nice and generous everyone had been, and I went home feeling really excited.
Wednesday
Now that I had finished work, things were getting really real. We had been planning the wedding for two years, so it was hard to believe that it was finally happening. It took four trips to the car to put all our decorations in to take to the venue. We handed everything over to the coordinator at the venue (who said he wished all his brides were as organised as me). Then we went to the travel agents to pick up our honeymoon tickets.
Then we had nothing left to do. I had organised everything so that we had nothing left to do but relax. Because, to me, the way we met was like a fairytale, this was kind of the theme of our wedding.
Thursday
This was Christian’s birthday. He had to go and pick up his best man from the airport, and then we went to the pub. My MOH called me to ask if there would be napkins at the venue or not. I assured her there would! The weather was wet and miserable.
Friday
Christian went back to the airport to pick up his Mum. I went to pick up one of my BMs from the train station, and then we met with my other BM and MOH and we got our nails done. Then we went to the venue to drop off the BM dresses, shoes and a couple of other bits and to say hello to my parents who had arrived to stay at the venue. The weather was wet and miserable.
Then we went to the pub for dinner and drinks. It was really nice as my parents had not met Christian’s Mum before and we had quite a few other friends there who had travelled to us for the wedding.
Then I went back to our flat with one of my BMs and we watched ‘Bridesmaids’ and drank cava. Then we decided we should be sensible and go to bed because it was midnight.
