Despite not posting much I am a serial lurker and thought I would write a quick report of ‘my day’. I thought it would be difficult to write but in fact it keeps pouring out and in fact may well spill into several posts ….. So are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin.

A quick background

Me and Rob met in 1999 after a few too many drinks at a bar in Nottingham, to ensure we met again we exchanged numbers and jewellery, I awoke with a cheap metal ring and an even cheaper wooden bead necklace. He awoke with my rather expensive Tag Heuer watch and a white gold necklace. Why he didn’t run off into the sunset I will never know, but he called and we exchanged jewellery back, and from pretty much that moment I knew he was special.

The proposal

So fast forward nearly 12 years, we now live together in a house be bought together 10 Years earlier, and have a small zoo of animals together. We have been through some rocky patches but the good times have always outweighed the bad. We had spoken about getting engaged but just never got round to it.

Its Christmas day 2010 there is snow still on the ground following the coldest spell of winter I can remember. I was up early to go and do the horses and am wearing about 6 layers of clothing and probably looking as unattractive as I can. Rob insisted before we do anything we take the dog for a walk, I oblige not really understanding the urgency or why he is so twitchy but don’t question it. We walk up though the woods I think he has tripped and giggle as he is on one knee on the floor, I suddenly realise he is pulling a box from his pocket. He asks me to marry him, takes off several pairs of gloves I am wearing and puts the gorgeous ring he has chosen on my finger. Obviously as I am now writing a wedding report I say ‘Yes’ and probably like most brides to be I manage to produce about 6 wedding magazines in the space of a week and start desperately planning a huge lavish affair at a castle somewhere, involving riding my horse down the aisle, having the dog as a bridesmaid and the chinchilla as a ring bearer.

The start of the planning

We have a week or so off after Christmas and discuss dates and decide rather than setting a date then finding a venue, we will find a venue and then decide a date. We sit and talk about ‘ Our wedding ‘ and what we both want, and realise that in fact a large lavish affair isn’t what either of us want. Unlike a lot of brides to be the thought of being centre of attention and everyone looking at me fills me with terror, and we toy with the idea of going abroad with just closest family and friends.
Back at work new year 2011 and i show off my ring to anyone that even glances at it for a second, and realise how many friends we have that I would hate not to be able to celebrate our wedding day with, so heading abroad goes out the window, and we spend a couple of weekends driving looking at local venues just from the outside and find ‘the one.’I ring and arrange to go and have a meeting and we love the place, but are like a pair of plonkers when asked questions as we still haven’t got an idea of a date or how many people, or really anything other than the fact we want to get married. We come away with lots of decisions to make and an idea of prices. We have a vague idea we will get married spring/summer 2012 but looking at the venue price list quickly realise it is loads cheaper to get married ‘ out of season ‘ in fact the venue hire charge in November, December, January and Feb is less than half the price of the summer months. Quick discussion hubby to be doesn’t want it this side of Christmas, January is too soon after Christmas, so that left February. A quick call to the venue and they confirm they have one Saturday available and that is the 25th, a quick discussion with both sets of parents and date set, deposit paid on the only venue we actually had a meeting at and looked inside, we are getting married Saturday 25th Feb 2012, just over a year away.

Planning, planning and more planning

Having booked the venue, we started to make a few decisions, We didn’t want loads of people at the ceremony but we wanted to celebrate with everyone….. So the decision was a small intimate ceremony and wedding breakfast with the 2 of us and 19 of our closest family and friends. Then a larger evening do at the same venue with a real party atmosphere in the evening inviting another 100 or so friends, family and work colleagues.
So that was the venue and the guest list ticked off our ever extending list of to do.

Next was the dress, now as you don’t know me I probably best explain a few things, I am not a girly girl, I have horses and spend most of my life in jodphurs, fleeces and yard boots, and the thought of having to strip to my underwear in front of a stranger bought me out in a cold sweat, so I was absolutely dreading dress shopping. It was around the start of August after lots of pressure I headed dress shopping with my Mum we went to one shop and I faffed a bit, looked at some dresses and eventually gave in and tried on a few that were the best of a bad bunch, one of which looked ‘nice’. Now I knew I wasn’t a burst into tears this is the one sort of girl so was almost happy to go with ‘nice’. As an only daughter my Mum on the other hand would not let me. So sitting outside one shop I rang my Dad told him to get on the internet and find me numbers for dress shops near the one we were at. A few phone calls later and a quick trip home to pick the dog up and we headed to another shop. The shop specialised in uncollected orders and preloved dresses so what you tried on was what you bought. Tried a few on, again lots of ‘nice’ then from the second one particular dress went over my head I just knew it was the illusive one, no tears but lots of smiles and I am soooo pleased I didn’t stick with ‘nice’. The dress fitted almost perfectly, a quick haggle later and I had my perfect dress, and arranged a fitting for the end of January, with instructions I could afford to lose some weight but not to put any on.

So amidst sorting a dress, we chose a colour theme, I fancied Cadburys purple or cerise pink, Rob was having none of it and in the end we compromised and went with a bright turuoise, perfect for brightening up a dull and grey day in February. We also paid a deposit to the florist, booked a free pre wedding shoot with a potential photographer, and found a lovely local lady that made cupcakes who agreed to do us wedding cupcakes.
We also made some big decisions OH chose his best man and I decided I didn’t want big bridesmaids instead I wanted OH’s little nieces as flower girls. A quick trip with the kids to Debenhams and we realised buying flower girl dresses off the peg with out adjustments being needed wasn’t going to happen. My MIL to be jumped in and offered to make dresses for her gorgeous grand children, I snapped her hand off decided a style, decided I wanted them In turquoise and promptly left her to it.

Oh lordy! I seem to have spent the past few days waiting for one thing or another, and today is no exception.

Waiting for an appointment at the hospital, waiting for a call about a job offer, waiting for the next instalment of the wedding report ...

I am going slightly demented, by the way. I'll be completely done in by the time we get to the end of it.

    Not...sure...I...can...take...anymore.................................hurry!

    For me too ?

When they're handing out awards at the end of the year, this has to win something surely? Maybe 'The Most Tortuous Tease Report Ever' or 'The-Report-Which-Kept-Most-People-From-Their-Daily-Routine' or 'The One That Drove Us All Bonkers'.

So close to the big moment and yet so far ..... PLEASE PUT US OUT OF OUR MISERY SOON OR WE'LL ALL BE CARTED OFF TO A PADDED CELL BEFORE WE GET A CHANCE TO GET HITCHED OURSELVES! ?

    Almost there i promise....

I know the first thing you all want to know..... did he look? Well i'll answer that in a sec... Me and Dad walked down the aisle, the only noise i could hear was my own heart beating and racing and the only thing i could see was my gorgeous husband to be waiting. It was like it was just me and him, i had to concentrate not to speed up cause all i wanted was to be by his side, my lip was still quivering my eyes full of tears, the very short aisle seemed to be taking forever to walk down. I don't know how anyone with a long aisle manages not to run. We get just beyond half way and Rob turned round, tears in his eyes he smiled and his eyes stayed locked on mine till i reached his side. A quick peck on the cheek for my Dad and my gorgeous bridesmaids set to work arranging my dress before they all sat down.

As the registrar welcomed everyone Rob took my hand and i was suddenly aware of everyone else in the room, and all their eyes were on me and Rob. I would love to be able to recite to you the welcome the registrar did but the only bit i can remember is her saying something about the venue being sanctioned as it all passed in such a blur. Before i knew it she was calling Rachel up to do her reading 'The teddy bear' I had a sudden pang of nerves for her as at seven years old to stand up at the front and read to everyone is a big thing to do. She was word perfect and me and Rob smiled and watched and felt so proud of her.

Next the registrar moved onto the official bits 'did anyone know of any reason why we could not be married?' despite our ceremony only being nineteen of our closest family and friends and the obvious fact there was no reason we still waited with almost baited breath. Then my Dad stepped up with our second reading and i had exactly the same nerves for him as for Rachel, i have always been a real Daddys girl, and i felt so very proud to be his daughter as he stood reading.

We then moved onto our vows, Rob went first and was a tough act to follow having got it all spot on. When we chose the vows together we had looked and read but never actually said them out loud and as i stared into Robs eyes the words flowed so easily. Rings were next and Richard stood up and handed them to us. I suddenly remembered we were going to put a smear of vaseline in them to prevent a mishap not getting them on, but decided asking for some lip balm at this point might not be the done thing. I needn't have even considered it as we didn't have a drama and all too soon the registrar announced us as husband and wife you may kiss the bride. In our case this ought to have read you may kiss the groom cause i was soooo desperate to kiss him i almost jumped on him.

We sat together at the registrars table Elbow one day like this playing ooking out towards our very closest family and friends and thought we really are truly blessed to have such amazing people in our lives.

Not much more to say ...........

As we went to leave the room Florence and the machine you've got the love playing i took Robs hand only to be stopped by the registrar. We were the wrong way round, apparently the gentleman should always have his right hand, his sword hand free to protect his wife. We both smirked not at the sword hand comment but cause it was the first time anyone had called me Robs wife.

We tried to steal a moment to ourselves but everyone wanted a kiss and to offer congratulations so instead we headed downstairs for Champagne, i discovered the easiest way to negotiate the stairs down was to put my hands on the bannister and jump, glancing up i saw Toby the photographer and dreaded to think what that one was going to look like.

Champagne in hand it was my first chance to have a proper look at our venue all laid out, and i loved it. I produced some bubbles for the kids one each but the child in my took over and they shared one while i played with the other. As the sun was shining we were able to head outside for photos. All too soon photos were over and we headed in for dinner.

Another question you may all be waiting to hear the answer to did i cry? The answer, not until the speeches. Having held it together right through the whole ceremony i thought i was home and dry. Now we are not a family that speak about feelings a lot, in fact the opposite is true and although i know my parents love me and are proud i couldn't think of a time they have ever told me. My Dad started and was funny and confident telling stories and i smiled and smiled, he spoke about how as a teenager i had always said i would get married in doc martins and how he really wouldn't have been surprised if i had, he told stories about my childhood and how as kid i spent days out watching motorbike racing just to spend time with him, then he took my hand and his voice broke slightly as he spoke about how beautiful i looked and how proud he was of me. It took me back to being a very small girl looking into my Dads eyes and tears streamed down my face, i managed to regain my composure and glanced round to see just about everyone dabbing there eyes with tissues so i wasn't alone.

Robs speech was equally touching, he does a lot of presentations and public speaking at work so was always going to be confident. We have the opposite sort of relationship to the one i have with my parents in that we freely speak about our feelings and we had spoken about his speech and i had given him a free rein pretty much and said i didn't want to hear it till the day. Having opened the floodgates i knew tears were inevitable and despite snuffling and blubbing i didn't take my eyes off my new husband and enjoyed hearing him recite how we met and the reasons he fell in love with me.

The bestmans speech followed and as we were such a small group it was very personal with just the correct level of filth and humour and enabled me to pull myself together.

From nowhere the photographer reappeared and Me and Rob headed outside for a few more pictures, grabbing a bit of time just the two of us was lovely and as we stood having pictures done our evening guests started to arrive, a couple slipped in without disturbing us however spotting a really close friend who had come from South Africa i rushed off across the grass forgetting my dress trailing along behind to give her a great big hug.

As we were expecting an extra hundred or so people there was just a constant stream of people flowing in and all plans for Me and Rob to meet in greet in the entrance area went completely to pot. We were a bit like rabbits caught in headlights as everyone flowed in handing over cards, presents and wanting a chat. I started to feel slightly over whelmed and nipped off to the bar to grab us both a drink, asking for half a cider i was told they only had bottles 'no problem' i said 'but can i possibly have a glass' as the bar tender handed me a pint glass i smiled and turned to find Rob behind me, 'do wives drink pints?' he said, I decided that didn't warrant an answer so i just took his hand and we went off to continue mingling with all our guests.

As the band weren't due to start there first set till nine they dimmed the lights and put on a bit of disco music. Rachel and Charlotte had introduced themselves to every other child that had arrived and as soon as the music started the kids were bopping away on the dance floor. Glancing across i caught Rachels eye and smiled, with that she was over grabbing my hand and dragged me off for a boogie, holding hands in a big circle with all the kids we span, took turns to dance in the middle, giggled and did the can can.

Out of breath, Richard, Robs best man rescued me from admitting i was too old to keep up with the kids, it was cake cutting time. The music stopped and i stood next to my new husband his arm round my waist, our hands locked together holding the knife, all our guests round us, the photographer poised and Rob whispered in my ear ' do we actually cut it?' i looked up for someone to ask and could only see people looking on expectantly 'no idea' i answered. We placed the knife onto the cake and paused, cameras flashed, still unsure if we were meant to cut or not we went for it and pushed down making a nice big clean cut.

As quick as we had made the cut the cake was whisked off to the kitchen to be cut up for guests, and the evening buffet was served. Having eaten an amazing four course meal just a few hours earlier i didn't partake in evening food. We had chosen what the venue call substantial canapes, which is small portions of chilli, beef stew, chicken and veggie curry and mini jacket potatoes all served off trays and you just helped yourself as they came past with the waitress.

It was at this point we scuttled off by ourselves to the balcony on the mezzanine , and standing looking down at all our guests eating, drinking and dancing we stood in silence just watching, we probably stood for a minute or so just taking it all in, as we turned we saw Toby standing in the door way, he had followed us up the stairs to do some photos but hadn't wanted to intrude.

The final arranged part of the day was our first dance, neither of us had been very keen, but decided it would help get everyone up and dancing. As the band started playing we wrapped our arms round each other and swayed along to chasing cars our compromise on a song to dance to. After about a minute the band invited others to join us and soon the dance floor was swamped with smooching couples.

From the first dance the band kicked off their first set playing all our favorite songs and the dance floor was packed, kids and adults alike, and me and Rob mingled, danced, chatted, smooched and danced some more. All too soon people started saying their good byes and i was genuinely sad it was coming to an end. As half past twelve came round only the hard core of us were left on the dance floor and we all wrapped our arms round each others shoulders and formed a big circle and swayed and sang out loud and it was a lovely end to the evening.

As our venue didn't have a hotel on site our friends and family were heading off in one taxi to a local hotel and me and Rob headed off in another taxi back to our house. Arriving home Rob did the manly thing and carried me over the threshold and we giggled away and the dog leapt up trying to get in on the action.

I would love to be typing here how romantic and passionate it was getting undressed for the first time as husband and wife, however that would not be true, i had never considered getting out of my dress so Rob undid the thousand or so buttons down my back, while i made a start on removing hair grips. Arms in the air Rob pulled my dress off over my head amazed how heavy it was, i had completely forgotten my hoop, so rather than showing off my new sexy undies i was stood in the middle of our lounge wearing what looked like my nans petticoat, and again we laughed and laughed.

Petticoat dispersed off Rob lifted me up and carried me up the stairs to bed, and we lived happily ever after.

    THE END at last.

Love love loved your report - I don't blame you a bit for going for a morning hack; I was meant to be competing the day before ours but have been banned; the only reason I've agreed not to compete is because my sister pointed out the horse might pull a shoe, and I'm planning on riding her to the church so that's more important to me that competing the day before. I fully expect to arrive covered in slobber!

Your report was fabulous though, I felt like I was there. Can't wait for flashes!

A thousand or so thank you's for the people that helped make our special day

So thank you's i have about a thousand or so please bear with me...

Firstly big thanks to our photographer http://www.tobynealphotography.co.uk/ We are absolutely over the moon with the pictures he took and from our pre wedding shoot through to our wedding day he was a pleasure to deal with. He was happy to tailor a package to fit our needs, even though that meant going home for a few hours in the afternoon so i could have some photos with our evening guests. And despite me not being the easiest to photo as i get a bit rigid he completely put me at ease.

Thanks to http://www.rochelleobrien.com/ who i believe is on here? I was scared rigid going for my trial and she made me feel completely at ease. My make up and my MIL and Mums make up were all fantastic, and despite my tears late on in the day everything stayed put and looked great through to the end. She was fantastic with the kids running round and even treated my seven year old bridesmaid to a smudge of Channel blusher.

Next is a thanks to http://www.thebridalhairstylist.co.uk/ Melanie works along side Rochelle and they are a fantastic team, they work seamlessly and i haven't got a single negative i could think of. My hair was absolutely perfect and stayed in place right till i had to take it out on the early hours of Sunday morning. Rachel was also most upset when i told her she would have to take her hair out to go to bed and couldn't keep it in to show the other girls at school. As mentioned in my report Melanie went completely above her duties staying happily to help me get my dress on and was a real calming influence amongst the madness going on around.

My amazing cupcakes and the decorations for the cakes my Dad made were all done by a lady local http://www.creativecakesbyclare.co.uk/ she does some of the most amazing cakes i have ever seen and not only do they look fantastic they taste absolutely out of this world.

My personalised cake topper, which is unbelievable, it is something we will keep for years to come as a souvenir of our day, it attracted loads of comments and now has pride of place in my lounge it was done by http://suzzyscraftcreations.weebly.com/ Her talent is amazing and off some photos she managed to get such likeness even down to tiny details, she also worked on a really tight schedule as being disorganised i asked her to do the topper with only a few weeks notice. She emailed me regular updates and put up with my demands for photos.

The band http://www.maslowmusic.co.uk/ who smashed everything they played and had the dance floor full from the moment they started playing and also did a great DJ set inbetween and after sets.

Our Venue http://www.perkins-family.co.uk/?i=68769 and in particular to Mel who dealt with us in the run up and to Emily who ran our day for us. The venue was perfect and we got the real personal touch, nothing was an inconvenience and despite them running weddings every weekend we were made to feel like ours was ssoooo important and special.

Our beautiful flowers done by http://www.theflowershopeastleake.com/ that lasted and lasted and lasted and were everything i had hoped for despite having given very little guidance on what i actually wanted.

All our fantastic friends and family for making our day so very very special.

To all you guys for putting up with my taking forever to write this, and for all the lovely comments all the way through.

And last but not least my gorgeous gorgeous husband for not only putting up with me for the last twelve years but also for helping plan and organise a day we will remember for the rest of our lives.

No doubt i have missed someone or something and will have to edit and add them in but for now that's it with the writing and here are some pics.........

I can't believe what a lovely account of such a special day that was to read. I have honestly just sat for about half an hour cup if coffee in one hand and tissues in the other and sobbed happy tears of this report and i am hoping i will have lots of lovely little details and memories to take away after my big day. I am aiming to make sure i keep taking the time to absorb it all through the day and lock thise special feelings and memories in just like you have.

Congratulation hunni and what a lovely report. I can't wait to see your photo's now!

    Keep it all coming. x
