I have just been to the hospital and watched my lovely Nanny pass away.
She
had a fall last Sunday and had been taken in to hospital where they
assessed her and decided that she was not fit enough to go home so she
was sent in to a nursing home to recover until she was well enough to
go home.
We got a phone call this morning to say that she was
having trouble with her breathing so we made plans to visit her in
hospital. When I arrived with my sister I knew that there was no chance
of her recovering. The doctor called us in to the relative room and
told us that she had a massive chest infection and that because she
already had trouble with her heart and kidneys they had stopped working
as well as they should be and that we had to prepare for the worst. We
were then told that we should go straight back to her bedside. We stood
there with her telling her that we loved her and that it was going to
be ok. Her breathing was not good at all and it was so much hard work
for her. She was trying to speak but couldn't but it looked like she
was trying to say Love You. She also kind of said my mums name too.
Within 20 minutes of us being told that this was the end (and a lot of
fighting from my Nan) she had gone. It was midday.
We had a bit
of a giggle afterwards because she had been trying to speak and we said
that she always wanted the last word. It seems inappropriate when
written down but it was absolutely the right thing.
Well Nanny, you managed to make it without having a hearing aid. You said you'd never have one! N'night, God Bless, Love you.
