My poor Poppy cat has just been attacked :O(

Vanilla Pod, 22 May, 2012 at 17:00 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 24

I was in the back garden when I heard that horrible growl and screeching of cats fighting, so I went out to see if it was her. I gets outside and right in the corner of our close (on another neighbours garden) was Alfie, the big horrible cat from over the way screeching into a bush. I went over and sure enough it was Pops he had backed into a corner she was trembling and he was just swiping at her face. I houted at him and tried to get Poppy then he turns and attacks me, big scratches up my leg and foot. I am only wearing a playsuit and flipflops. Not helpful.

I didn't know what to do as I couldn't get near so I ran over to where he lives and banged on the door, all the while poor Pops is getting more battered, I could see they were in the back garden but they did't answer. Came back into ours and grabbed a mop.. tried to push him off her with the mop and he jumped over it and got my other leg all the while these scary growling noises. In the end the nice old man who lived there came out and ran at him with his walking stick and he ran off. I picked up poor Poppy from the bush she is all cut all over her face, shaking like a leaf and her fur on her necks all missing. ☹️

After I had taken her in the old man said that Alfie often attacks his wife when she is hanging out washing! Another neighbour popped his head over the fence and said that he has seen it scratch a little boy last week. The old man says he will phone the RSPCA but I dont want him put down they just need to keep it in!

I am literally shaking, my nerves are gone that was so scary!!

Aw your poor cat. Hope she's ok.

    Has Alfie been neutered?

That's awful, I hope Poppy is ok. Next time you could try throwing water at the bully cat - that might scare him away.

We have a big cat that chases our cat, who is really skinny, so everytime we see him we chase him out of the garden even if he isn't doing anything wrong, just to make it as uncomfortable as possible in 'our' teritory.

I dont know, I dont actually know the owners, he is quite old I would say at least 8-9 and is a family pet so I would assume/hope so.

    Poppy is neutered though.

Yes I didn't think of water. Normally cats go when scared by a human though, he is really horrible,my poor legs are cut to ribbon, I was terrified!

My Mum thinks I should go and knock and talk to the owner later on when the wifes back from work. I feel a bit daft though..

Oh no! I hope wee Poppy is OK! And i also hope your legs are ok too. This is always my concern when we put our cat out at night. he's a boy, and he has been neutered, so he's very laid back.

I don't really know much about cats, but it does seem like Alfie has some anger management issues. It might be an idea to go and speak to his owners and just ask if they're aware of his behaviour. you have scars to prove what he's capable of. Perhaps approaching it from a 'concerned other's won't be as forgiving' perspective when you speak with them?

Thanks RKB. I think I will do, the old man is pretty furious and there is a lot of children and other cats in our close so it does need to be addressed. She is sat next to me mewing and licking her wounds feeling very sorry for herself. She has stopped shaking now though. Tuna for dinner I think, she deserves a treat.

Oh no! Poor Poppy. I hope she is OK. My old cat got attacked a few times, even though she is massive she had no clue how to defend herself, and got a few scratches and bites but always bounced back after a couple of days of recovery. Hopefully Poppy will do the same.

Poor poppy, she will be ok, quite often cat fights sound alot worse )to us humans) that they really are and cats are territorial so they do fight it out to win land rights. My puss went though a horrible time defending her patch last year but everything has calmed down now and even the foxes are too scared to cross into her territory.

Keep an eye on her scratches to make sure she doesnt get an abscess, my cat always gets them after big bust ups

Oh no poor poppy... I would definitely have gone at the other cat with a hose or bucket of water, wouldn't have hurt him as he will dry but might have been enough to scare him off.

I hope he doesn't get put down, his owners need to take control if he is that violent.

I've just been to see the owners. She was very defensive and all "I've got a 4 year old little girl if I thought he was dangerous he wouldn't be here"

I was as nice as I could be whilst still getting the facts over. He has been neutered years ago she said. I suggested taking him the vets and explaining his behaviour to them. I also told her that were whisperings of the RSPCA as people were worried he was so aggresive. I didn't name names though. She also suggested that maybe the kids in the street were "getting on his nerves" by stroking him and thats why he scratches them.

We will see what happens but I cant see it being much.

The owner doesn't seem to want to take responsibility here.

Aww it's awful when you see that, when we first moved here, Charlie my Tom cat was still only tiny and he got backed up a few times.... Water guns.. Spray them they hate it.

Thankfully now he plays with the cat who attacked him.

Not to scare you, but please keep an eye on the scratches on your legs and If you feel ill go to the doctors.

Charlie got stuck badly in a thorn tree earlier this year, when my fella was helping him down he bit into him and scratched like mad.... We ended up in AnE next day and was rushed though to surgery because of the bite...

Surgeon said after human mouths cat bites and scratches are second dangerous because you don't know what theyve had in their mouth or claws...

He was absolutely fine and so was our cat... But if this cats constantly doing it.. It could result in the same trip for one of your neighbours.

    Xxx

Thanks Min. And thanks mini cats! She thinks she's on her daddys yacht at the minute as we have been out all day and are rather tipsy so we are over adoring her... We have asked her to perform the "ask nicely for a treat" trick at least 6 times... 6 meaty stix later she looks drunk on food. Purrrrrrrrrr happy, bit of dribble..

Poor Poppy, and poor you! I hope you're both okay. When I was about 12 our cat was fighting with another cat in our garden and I rushed out with my mum to scare the other cat away. The cat lunged out of the bushes and attached himself with all four paws (and claws and teeth!) to my arm. I screamed and had to shake him off. I still have the scars.

Hope the other cat stays away from now on.

I have had a word with the neighbour. Look on the previous page, she was a t*at. I feel mean on Pops now though, weve been out all day so she has been stuck in all day, she's crying to go out and I dont want to let her.

Alfie is a dangerous feral horror! Any of the ladies who are my FB friends know how much I love my baby
