My turn for a "what to wear?"

Pinkbunny, 22 June, 2008 at 16:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I'm going to an award ceremony in Poland later this week, and I've not got a clue what to wear.

I don't really want to have to buy anything new, but at the same time I want to get it right - I'll be there with one of my new clients, so I want to get the right balance of elegant yet original. I'm also consicous of the fact that I've not got a clue of Polish dress-codes and there aren't any clues on the invitation. I've asked my business partner's wife (who is Polish) for advice, and to be honest, she's not sure what I should wear, but reckons to aim for 7/10 glam.

So far, I'm thinking of a simple black strappy dress (calve length, but doesn't look too frumpy) with turquoise sparkley sandals, a turquoise silk wrap and a fascinator (turquoise and fuchsia). Are fasctinators a bit naff though? And are they suitable for an evening event? Will I end up looking like a wedding guest?

Heeeeyulp!!

mil and her family are polish, and what seems to go down well is a really nice suit, so i'd be tempted to go for an evening-y suit with a sparkly top and nice shoes, pretty bag. or alternatively the outfit you'd planned sounds good but i might leave off the fascinator personally... or have a big enough handbag so you can stash it if it feels ott when you get there ?

    Cheers Moo.

I think that I'll go with a dress - I asked the organiser (in Poland), and he said that I should wear a dress. I [probed him further on the nuances of dress codes and he just laughed and said "no Nike" ?

'spose it will be the same sort of thing as for an award ceremony over here, which still leaves me with a big ? to be honest ?

sounds like a lovely outfit anyway!

TBH I think fascinators are for outdoor, daytime events - they're non-hat hats, really.

Sophie - you are so right!

Just tried on the full ensamble, and it just doesn't look right.

I want to wear some kind of "statement" (oooh, doesn't that sound prententious ?) ... I have a diamante choker, which I love, but will it make me look like a transvestite? LOL!

    Waaah!! mountains of clothes everywhere.....
