Perfect wedding with the traditional not so perfect but memorable bits included with which to make stories of in later life (this, my sister reminded me of in the morning).
The night before the wedding I was treated to an amazing massage and French manicure by one of my friends, perfect for winding down, chilling out and calming the nerves. When i got home my upstairs neighbour was fighting and swearing out on the street and her music was blaring. So I did what any bride would do and cried!! I phoned a good friend who insisted i stayed there for the night. She cooked for me, made me a bed and even breakfast and tea in the morning which was just what i needed. I drove home at 7.30 and tried to remain calm. Opening my presents from mr B was fun but emotional and I had my first cry of the day, I got a HUGE card, a bouquet of roses and an alarm clock which had a message recorded on it. As the tears came the door went... opening the door to the florist in floods of tears. The flowers were amazing (celosias, roses, peonies, honey suckle) and I had to pull myself together again. A few friends arrived to take the reception stuff to start decorating (I gave them ridiculously strict instructions about how to drive!!) There was an hour gap where nothing really happened apart from my nerves going doolalley, so I decided I MUST watch meet the parents to calm down. As the bridesmaids arrived i still insisted that this must be watched and I sat on the floor n my conservatory with a duvet and refused to move. I was presented with a glass of pink bubbly and fruit which I refused to drink as im such a lightweight. Yes I was a bridezilla I later asked the neighbours to stop trimming their hedge but we wont go into that- a bit of wedding cake patched that up nicely the next day!!.
Getting ready was brilliant fun as the hair and makeup girls got to work on us we played some string music and I daydreamed about the day. The girls all looked amazing and as the photographer and my dad arrived we all piled into my bedroom to put on our dresses. I was so scared of spilling wine, chocolate or tea on my lovely dress and couldn’t really relax until after the ceremony. We had some photos in the garden and got some silly shots taken too like our toes and some teddies. Before we knew it was 13.50 and we drove to the church in my dads Subaru. I looked out the window and nearly cried but held it in by talking about flowers, the weather, anything! The little bridesmaid and pageboy met us outside the church they looked amazing. I then realised this was it... as we walked into the church behind the vicar, arm in arm with my dad the string quartet started playing pachabels canon.... thats when the waterworks started and my little nose started dripping I was a bit overwhelmed by the faces of loved ones and friends all smiling back at me and I walked up the aisle to a gobsmacked Mr B who looked very handsome indeed.
The ceremony was beautiful, the string quartet played much better than I could have ever imagined. The words to one of the hymns were wrong so at one point no one was singing at all but that just made it funny. The vows, exchange of rings etc were so moving, I felt like it was just me, Andy and God. As we were pronounced man and wife I really started to relax and enjoy the day more. Two of our friends had written prayers which were beautiful and special to us. As we walked down the aisle I let Andy know I had a secret – the string quartet started playing Queen Bohemium Rhapsody - his favourite song, it worked really well and no one else knew it was coming Andy was over the moon and later told me it was one of the best moments of the day. All our friends took photos as we exited the church and the next hour went by in a blur of photos and hugs and confetti (which was poured down my back!!).
One of our ushers drove us to the church and the drive was a great opportunity to breathe, have a snog and take stock of things that had happened.
We arrived at the reception, a restaurant on a golf course – to a glass of Pimms and big bowls of sweets. I caught up with some very treasured long distance friends of mine and met some new people from my new family!! Mrs B now.
Then came some real fun!! We piled into cars and drove to a cute little kids park (which hasn’t changed for 30 years!!) where we went down a big bumpy slide, bumper cars, trampolines and generally had a silly time. This will hopefully make for excellent photos too!! The people who run the park said I was only their second ever bride.
We then went back to the reception and did the receiving line, which gave us the opportunity to chat to everyone and kiss everyones cheek!! The reception was beautiful, the hours of hard work were worth it! The photo boxes, place name envelopes (with secret missions inside), postbox and homemade table centres looked lovely. As I sat down there was the most amazing wedding cake made to look like a scrabble board with the andy and becky joining (it was also chocolate flavoured!!) It was a lovely surprise. The dinner was great, I had pate, roast lamb and fruit salad and everyone seemed to enjoy theirs too. As the waiter came round with the bubbly on a big tray he wobbled slightly and a whole tray of glasses spilled all over him and the floor (to a grand applause – poor guy). Speeches- my dad could have done much worse than he did, he said some embarrassing things but on the whole was very sincere, not too cheesy and didn’t steal all of it from the internet!! The best men and Andys speeches were great, very personal and moving (yes I cried again!) lots of little in jokes there too.
We cut the cake and danced like nutters, taking the opportunity to have some beautiful photos taken on the golf course as the sun went down. One of my favourite moments was looking out to the course and watching the little kids run around, as the sun set behind them. I cant wait to see those shots.
As the night went on we had some lovely little chats with people, were accosted by the token very drunk bridesmaid, heard about how people had completed or declined their secret missions and drunk quite a bit of the fizzy stuff. It was really beautiful, over too quickly and a perfect wedding day.
We stayed in the B********* suite at the local posh hotel (my new surname!!) which was ridiculously lavish (twin Jacuzzi bath, champagne, chocolates, four poster bed!!)
The next day we met up with friends and family and chilled in a pub garden eating wedding cake and playing chase with my neice and nephew. We spent the evening opening our wedding presents (very excited and emotional, we felt so blessed!!). Some tags had fallen off so we had no idea who half of them were from. We then spent our first night in our new home together and woke the next day heading off on honeymoon to Ross on Wye (where I am now typing this report). A pretty amazing wedding altogether.
