Well, what can I say? It really was the best day of my life. In all of my wildest dreams, it didn’t think it would go as smoothly as it did.
Thursday – Lots of travelling and organising – had the rehearsal at 8pm.
Friday – lots of running around and taking stuff to the hotel. It was very emotional saying goodbye to K in the hotel car park.
Saturday – woke feeling exceptionally calm but quite hyper. Not really nervous just keen to get the day started. Everything went according to plan. It was lovely to see all our hard work pay off with fantastic results. The ceremony was beautiful. We had so many comments about how wonderful the lady Reverend was. She was so calming throughout the ceremony – I’m sure I would have been a blubbering wreck if it hadn’t been for her. As I was saying my vows, my voice was shaking and I started to fill up. A couple of tears rolled down my face. I tried to sniff back my tears and there was a collective ‘sniff’ from all the guests as they did the same. My husband (bounce) was prepared for such a moment and produced a handkerchief from his pocket and gently dabbed away my tears. It as a lovely, touching moment. The Reverend commented that ‘In all her years of conducting wedding ceremonies, this was the first the time she has seen the groom take on his duties of ‘cherishing ‘ the bride from the start’. This produced a round of applause from the congregation! The rest of the ceremony was beautiful and we were then pronounced husband and wife!!!
The church has a very strong family connection and we had lots of photos taken in the grounds of the church . We were about 5 mins away from finishing the photographs at the church and the heavens opened and there was such a downpour. We didn’t get a confetti shot outside the church gates but managed to get one in the grounds of the hotel.
The hotel staff and manager were brilliant. They were so professional and gave structure to the whole day so that we didn’t have to worry about what was next. It all flowed and everyone commented on how well it turned out.
The food in the hotel was brilliant. We just kept it simple with soup, chicken and cheesecake, but it was done so well. K said it was the best soup he has ever had! We did the speeches before the meal and they were brilliant too. My Dad started by saying that he hadn’t prepared a speech because he was going to just speak from the heart. This set everyone off and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place by the time he finished. K’s speech and the best man’s speech were just as emotional.
So once the meal was finished, we moved out of the room while the hotel re-arranged the tables and the band set up. We had been taking secret dancing lessons for our first dance so everyone was really surprised when we did our little routine. It was really good to hear everyone cheering and clapping when we were doing our routine. At the end of the first dance, the band announced us as Mr & Mrs Macdonald instead of our actual name Docherty!! It was really funny.
The rest of the night passed in a blur of music and dancing with all our family and friends. It was such a wonderful day and loads of people commented that it was the best wedding they had ever been to. I loved having all our family and friends in the one placed and everyone got on so well.
The following morning, my stepson said that he wanted to do it all again and when I asked him why, he said “Because Daddy looked so happy when you were walking down the aisle!!”
I can’t believe that after all of my planning, it has now all come to an end. I would do it all again in heartbeat!
Thank you to the hitched girls (and guys) who have made my planning so enjoyable.
To all the brides-to-be, enjoy every single second of wedding day – it really does go by in a flash!
