Ok, so I think I have kept you all waiting long enough for this. I will try and keep it short and straight to the point. Here goes:
Wednesday 4th August
This was my last day at work, except I don’t think I did a lot as I was so excited! Mid morning I was called downstairs where I was given presents and a card from everybody. I cried while reading all the lovely messages. I received a bottle of wine, photo frame and some bride and groom mugs. I took them around the building to show everyone and say thanks, and when I came back, noticed my keys had gone from my bag. I left early at 4.30 and went outside to find my car covered in veiling and balloons, and the inside was covered in confetti and rice! On the back window was a sign saying ‘Bride to Be’ and there were cans tied on strings attached to my exhaust!! Loads of people gathered at the windows to watch me drive off which was lovely. I then went to get my nails done.
Thursday 5th August
This is the day I went to collect my dress, this is also when I started to get really, really excited. I spent the rest of the day sorting out wedding things, buying last minute bits & bobs, and cleaning the house. At 6, my then H2B returned home from work with a car full of balloons and play balls with jiffy envelopes stuck to the window with ‘Husband to be’ written on them. He also had presents from work - garden sprinkler, garden gloves, expensive champagne and $250 for our honeymoon.
We got changed and headed to the church for our rehearsal. I giggled all the way down the aisle and through the vows, but it did all suddenly start to feel very real.
At this point may I tell anyone who is worried about forgetting everything after the rehearsal - don’t worry - the vicar will prompt you on the day - we forgot loads!
Friday 6th August
For some reason I felt extremely calm - the calmest I had been in weeks! Then H2B went to the garage to see & help with the van (that still wasn’t finished!!) I went into town to get the mum’s thank you flowers and pick up my little sister from where they were staying. She came and helped me to set the venue with me. It was lucky she was with me as if she wasn’t, I probably wouldn’t have stopped to eat!
We put all the place cards, favour boxes and table names out, and left everything else for the venue to sort out for us.
I then went over to see the van which was (thankfully) just finished (although it still needs to go back for little bits). Then it was back home where instead of BIL and Van driving usher coming to the pub with us for drinks, they came round to clean the van and put the interior back in. They finally finished at 9!! This is when my CBM came round, and then H2B left to go to his parents. It was such a rush and later on I got a text to say he had left his speech in his work bag! At 10.00 I still hadn’t had tea and still had the kitchen to clean and the spare room to sort out. My CBM was brilliant - she sprang into action and scrubbed the kitchen to perfection while I ate and then she washed up while I sorted her room out and hung my dress in my room. We then sat up talking and did face masks till almost 1 when we decided we should go to bed - we were like teenagers on a sleepover - too excited to go to sleep!
Well done if you got so far, not even started on the day yet! And there was me saying I would keep it short. I’ll let you read so far while I type the rest!!
