Soooooo, it all began last friday when me, Mr BB and the 2 BB boys headed down to gretna green. The weather was looking less than promising (although this came as no surprise to me, i had been carefully "studying" the forecasts for weeks), but even that couldnt dampen our spirits....
So we had a quiet night on Friday - a bottle of bubbly and strawberries in the room then slept like a baby. We woke up at around 8am on the big day - i had some butterflies but it still hadnt sunk in yet that this was MY wedding day! We had a huge brekkie and then headed back up to the room, i was waiting on my sister arriving as i was going to her room to get ready. Mr BB was messing about on the laptop and somehow we ended up watching old Erasure videos on You Tube!?!?!!? Never, ever thought i would have spend the morning of my wedding day doing that but hey ho!
12.30pm and my sister arrived, and so did the other guests who were staying at the hotel. I packed up all my stuff and relocated to my sisters room - but not before saying goodbye to mr BB and warning him not to turn up LATE or DRUNK!!!
Not one to ever take my own advice once we got settled in my sisters room we soon had the champers flowing!!! it was all beginning to feel really "real" and once i had my hair and make up done and my veil on the nerves kicked in a wee bit! then my sister gave me a card from mr BB - i opened the envelope and felt the tears starting so i passed it to my sister, she only managed the first sentence then she started welling up so eventually my best friend faced the wall and read it aloud to us!!! im glad there wasnt anything too personal in it.....
Soon it was dress on and ready to go, finishing touches to the make up and a few deep breaths.......
I was only 20 mins late (!) and i felt quite emotional when i heard the piper playing as we approached... i was whisked out of the car for pics and then it was time to make my entrance!! i felt immediately relaxed as soon as i saw everyone and i got a nice surprise to see our wee boys standing at the anvil beside mr BB and the best man, i had expected them to be standing with the family.
The service was lovely and it was over in a flash! the minister told a lovely story about how hundreds of years ago couples ran away to gretna from england as scots law allowed them to wed at 16 with only 1 witness. The blacksmiths shop was the first place they reached over the border and as they said their vows the blacksmith would be welding in the background, joining two metals to make them stronger so they would last a lifetime. then he placed our hands over the anvil, struck it with the hammer and announced us man and wife!!!!
then it was rounds of photos outside (the rain had gone off and miraculously the sun was peeking through!) and then we headed for the Gretna Hall Hotel for our wee buffet and party
the evening was great, it was really relaxed - everyone mixed well, and they all BEHAVED themselves!!! And after the best mans speech my own (surprise) speech went down a storm, i dont think anyone was too surprised though, it was highly unlikely i could have kept my mouth shut!!!
Overall it was just the best day ever, and i wish i could do it all over again!!! I am so delighted and chuffed to be the new Mrs C! If you've got this far well done and heres a flashy flash fro me to you....
To all the brides who have yet to have their day, enjoy it all and best of luck, CHEERS!!!
