Well, where do i start!!
I will start with Friday, the day before the big day.
Woke up early and got all the bits in the car ready to decorate the venue. Had to be at the Registrars for 10.30am and was feeling a bit sick, nerves got the better of me that morning. Well we got to the registrars and he was great, although i thought funny looking woman! I had been dealing with a female registrar and was expecting to see her there. He went through everything and confirmed what we would do. Also had a bit of a practice walking up the aisle in the reg office. George being George was just stood there, looking on, thinking is he gona turn around and look at me or what?!
After the practice we went and sat back down and the registrar was going through what he would say, and as our address when we gave notice was in Chepstow, he automatically thought we were both Welsh, he said he was going to do a Welsh reading for us as something little extra, but that all fell down the drain as he soon realised we weren’t Welsh at all, me a Forest girl and George born in Bristol.
He made us feel quite relaxed and as quick as we went in, it was time to go.
11am we got to the venue and started putting the snowflakes together for over the dancefloor. I also managed to get around my manager and he lent me loads of xmas decs, and the xmas tree from the restaurant.
Time was going so slowly and when we realised the time was 4pm everyone decided it was done. So off home everyone went. Me and George went for a little drive and we chatted about things. I had always made a joke to George that he had better have had a drink before the ceremony so he would kiss me in front of people (he doesn’t like to show affection in public). So after a little cuddle in his works van (romantic, i know), it was time to say goodnight to my fiancé ready to see him the following day as my hubby!
I got to my parents house about 6.30pm and they were all frantically trying to tidy the house up ready for when the photographer to come on Saturday. It was all a blur, my aunty, mum, dad, nan and little cousin were all dusting and hoovering, but they wouldn’t let me help. Buggers! Then they drop the bombshell that my mum had organised a little party with a few family and friends for my last night as Miss. So everyone started arriving and getting very merry. My mum especially as she started crying and couldn’t believe that i was getting married. She was just so happy.
3am came and everyone finally went home and i went straight to bed. Although i didn’t get much sleep as i had to share a bed with my sister. Wriggler, snorer, you name it.
7am was up, finally my day was here! My brother had to take me to Ross so i could get some last minute bits done, bouquets for the mothers etc.
Got back at 11 to find the hairdresser was already there and was doing my mums hair. Which looked great when it was finished. I went and had my shower and next thing i know George is down stairs with his nieces (2 of the little bridesmaids) as he had to bring them up to my mums. Panic was setting in again as i didn’t want to him to see me. So I politely shouted Bugger Off Home!
12.30pm the tog turns up and things start getting a bit messy. 15 people in the house and not enough space to move. I started doing my makeup and was getting a little irate when one my false eyelashes kept falling off. One by one we got the bridesmaids dressed. Then came the moment we had to stitch my sister in to her dress, her boobs are so bloody big (excuse the bluntness) that the straps had to be sewn on afterwards to give her a bit of lift.
Then it was my turn for my hair, which now it was 2.30pm.
Panic started setting in as i thought its gona take ages for my hair to be done. But she did it in record time of 20 minutes. I was supposed to be having curls but there just wasn’t enough time. As soon as my hair was done it was off upstairs for me to get in my dress. It took 3 people to strap me in as they couldn’t work out which way the corset tied up, although my mum was shown in the shop, she was just so nervous and couldn’t do it. The hairdresser then stepped in to help. Started walking down the stairs to find an audience of my whole family standing there, my dad had a little tear in his eye. The time was now 3.20pm and i was thinking its a good half hour drive to Ross from my parents house so it was a quick photo shoot in the patio doorway with the bridesmaids before they had to scoot off.
I stepped outside to get in the car and was slipping because of the snow underfoot, and ended up having to lift the skirt up fully over my hips just to get in the car. What a challenge that was. My cousins were watching, and a couple of neighbours, by this point i just thought bugger it, i don’t care who sees me knicks now! And i also managed to whack me head as i got in and my hair went skewiff. Which you will probably notice on the pics.
Finally we were on our way. I thought with the snow and traffic in town on a Saturday, i was sure we were going to be late. But no!! 3.50pm we arrived and my bm’s and the tog were nowhere to be seen. I had given my sis strict instructions to wait in the hotel lobby and we would walk to the ceremony together, but thats my sis for you, never listens. The car driver was really helpful and went and found them. Then i was told that George, his dad and Best Man were in the bar and weren’t told we had arrived. So they had to run around the back of the hotel so as not to see me. Then next thing was Georges nephew (pageboy) came running over to tell me the ceremony was starting with out me! Bless him! He was so overwhelmed with everything. The tog took a couple of photos by the xmas tree and then we started to walk to ceremony room. Everything was fine. And i lined the girls up. The music started and the girls walked in, i let them get half way and my dad walked in first and waited for me to get by his side, just at that moment the music started jumping for a few seconds and there was gasp and then a giggle from everyone as it started playing properly again. My arm hooked under dads and we started walking down the aisle, my chest started to get tight and then an overwhelming feeling came over me and i just burst in to tears, my dad was telling me to breath!! We got to the front and George grabbed my hand and asked if i was ok. The registrar said he would then give me a moment to catch my breath. The ceremony then started and the registrar had everyone in giggles, it was great, loved it. Then came the part of ‘anyone objecting’, i peered around the room in anticipation and was relieved no-one piped up.
We said I DO and then we signed the registrar. I had forgotten what i was supposed to sign with, maiden name or married name!
We were then handed the certificate and nodded the usher for the exit song. Everyone was quiet and we could here this loud bloke chatting, only to find it was Billy Idol introducing Adam Sandler on the CD, my dad never cut the song down, everyone was looking at me wondering what was going on, then the song started and there was an applause. Bless my lovely dad, he was so stressed with everything he had forgotten to check it.
So we went over to the bar for the arrival drinks and some more photos. Meeted and greeted all the guests. And was having a great time.
The evening started at 7pm, and we decided we wanted to get the first dance and speeches over done with and get on with the party.
So the DJ called us up on the dancefloor for our first dance, the tune started and i was thinking to myself ‘that doesn’t sound like Bryan Adams’. My dad hadn’t checked the other CD for the DJ either, so our first dance was to Brandon Flowers – Crossfire, which was a good song anyway and we love that song too so we carried it on.
After that was the speeches, my dads voice was quivering as he done his and then it was the best man. George couldn’t say anything so i ended up doing a little speech to say thanks to everyone. I decided to go walking round talking to people and next thing all these people in Victorian clothing start walking in to the room. They all gathered up on the dance floor and my mum ran over and said that her boss was at the front, she had no idea what was going on. And they all start singing xmas carols and everyone joins in. It was a brilliant surprise. They were there for about 10 mins and they all congratulated us. My mum was speechless that her boss would do that for us.
After the surprise of the carol singers, the DJ called me and George back up on to the dancefloor, he had managed to find our original song by Bryan Adams, so we had 2 first dances.
The rest of night was full of dancing and my sis got a bit tipsy and ended breaking one of the straps on her dress. Typical! All the young boys showed off their break dancing skills and everyone had a great time.
And i only had 2 drinks!!
I’m happy now i have the man of dreams. Now we have everything else to look forward to.
Word of advice to all those due to be married soon, take in as much as possible, go with the flow, and don’t let anything ruin your special day!!
