Nails...

loobylou1979, 9 June, 2010 at 22:30 Posted on Planning 0 17

Just wondering what everyone is doing with their nails on their wedding day (if anything)?

I am booked in to have acrylics at the end of July so I can see what they are like...however I don't really know much about the process and after ideas on alternatives.

Thanks ?

I had the gell polish done once before and it ruined my nails. It took them months to recover. Im hoping to grow them and have them french polished! Come the summertime I'll start french polishing them myself regularly and that will keep them slightly stronger and they shouldn't break!

I have really short nails (nail biting addiction) and I am going to get them french polished on the morning of the wedding so they are pristine. I have had them done previously and they really made my nails look longer!

I know! I was quite surprised at how much of my nails was obscured by the cuticles.

You see whilst I can grow my nails easily (Tescos Hair, skin and Nails works wonders on them!_ I'm a bit rubbish at keeping nail polish on, but hadn't thought of asking the salon at the hotel to do them the morning of the wedding. I shall investigate!

    Thanks x

I've had my nails done with something called 'Calgel' last week. It's perfect. It's a coloured gel and can go directly over your own nails. It doesn't hurt like normal UV gel when u go under the light. And it comes off easily and without buffing. It seems to strengthen the nails cause you dont have to buff your own nailbed, which ruins it. I'll have this done until my wedding and then my own nails should be long enough and I'll have a french design. French I will probably have a wee layer of acryl over it tho, cause my nails break very easily lol

I am just gonna grow mine slightly. Not too long. I have very weak nails at the mo so have got really expensive nail hardener so am using that, keeping them as short as i can until they are strong and then will eventually get them at a nice length. Then will probably have them done in the late afternoon, the day before, along with my toe nails Smiley smile

I had acrylics for my brothers wedding and they wrecked my nails

Just a word of advice if you've never had acrylics before......some salons use an electric buffer on your natural nails before applying the acrylic which ruins your natural nails, so basically when the acrylics are removed, it will take around 6 months for your nails to get back to normal again. Personally I hate the stuff, it's so harsh.

You could try a gel overlay to your nails, its a lot gentler on your own nails and if you have a decent technician, it looks lovely. Failing that, I'd just buy some fake nails - I've used Elegant touch ones in the past and they're fab and you only need to soak your nails in an acetone based varnish remover to get them off. And they're a lot cheaper!

My nails are OK, so I'm just going to start doing oil treatments a couple of months before the wedding to get my cuticles etc in good condition, and then I'm going to paint them in a very sheer pale pink just to give them a sheen more than anything

If you're going to go down the acrylic nails line, try and find a salon that will buff your nails with a buffing block rather than the electric types as its much kinder to your nails x

I'm going to have a gel overlay with a colour on them, I don't want french manicure for my wedding, I have that done all the time with the acrylics so want something different.

Agree re acrylics, once years ago but never, ever again!

The Nails Inc 3 week manicure seems like a good idea but my two friends who've had it done said it took their nails a good couple of months to recover from them.

I'll be keeping mine relatively short but will have a manicure the day before. I'm going to go for an American polish - it's like a French manicure but the starkness between the white and pink is less so - far more natural looking.

Thanks ladies, there's absolutely no positives for acrylic nails to make we want to even turn up for my appointment..I'm going to cancel tomorrow and contact the salon at my venue as I think they do a bridal package that includes a simple but lovely manicure. I'm staying there the night before so might see how late they work and book in for their last appointment!

I just had a french manicure as I have nails which are a reasonable length so they got filed down to a nice length and then painted. I hate false nails so wouldn't have considered them.

Lol, it took me a second too long to realise they weren't both your hands! That's def the look I want to go for-I'm just a tad naive when it comes to nails....not had anything done to them before. I'm sure by the time it gets to w day I'll have the will power not to pick it off!
